Nice shots - shame I couldn't get past the beyond-terrible Noo Age crap on the soundtrack.

I'll watch it again with the sound down, mebbe.

I thought about including a caveat concerning the appalling soundtrack in the blurb but then decided that the majestic images really speak for themselves and anyone annoyed by the music will just turn it off and enjoy the stunning visuals without sound. To be honest, I find it somewhat petty-minded to dismiss the entire video just because of the shitty soundtrack. After all, this is real footage, not some fake CGI lift-off sequence from a cheesy Sci-Fi movie. Is our perception so accustomed to movie-like artificiality that we recognise the sublime only when it comes with properly chosen music? Anyhow, I suggest to just mute the original soundtrack and play the video with something like Ben Frost's "Theory of Machines". That should work.

Hey, I didn't mean to sound so dismissive - it was late and I'd got back from a party and kind of couldn't be arsed. You're right, the shots are utterly stunning, and in a way silence is the most appropriate soundtrack because of course that's what you'd hear (or rather not hear) if you were actually there, adrift in the vacuum. Sorry if it came across badly.

thanks lanugo . leaving the planet was great,
missile slashdown - invigorating
lens dusty with burnoff
patchy tile coloration
jet wind blowing in front of the sun ...
The shuttle separation was nice.

with all the warning, we did mute the audio and an already in progress Jon Hassel provided incidental soundtrack

Bear in mind the Guardian is notorious for its misprints - that's why you'll sometimes see it referred to as Teh Grauniad. And the guy mentions "equality of opportunity" earlier in the same sentence.
