I think there might some really good Kiss FM mixes from around '93 knocking about.

Also - 1988 @ Land Of Oz & The Hacienda

That '93 Kiss show is absolutely peak period Sabresonic business.
oh. my. I think you just made my day!

Anyone got any Jeff Mills? ;)

That's not quite what I meant.

Checking one of those links led me to the page below. Not sure how many of these work but I aim to find out in the next couple of hours!

I also started digging through records last night. I have loads and loads of Sabres white labels and also a load of the Sabrettes stuff which was Nina's (Andy's girlfriend) spin off label. Not sure what happened to her after they split but she was a character!

> So no recordingz from Sabresonic nights?

I wish there was, I played some of my best sets there! For me that was the peak of that era, akin to last years DMZ dances.

What about Weatheralls productions prior to TLS? When he used Julian Cope's sound engineer, Hugoth Nicholson. These were the giants, all of the Meat Beat Manifesto stuff, the early primal Scream mixes, the James stuff. You really saw how much of this sound was down to Nicholson when AW stopped using him.

I met Hugo Nicholson once, crazy dude!!

were the sabresonic nights held in a massive space beneath a YMCA or the like (i.e., are there actually YMCAs in england?) near tottenham court road? with a full-on progressive rock band backed by andrew weatherall or whomever on turntables? i somehow recall lots of leafy plants and torches for the decor? does this ring a bell with anyone?

It was at a place in London Bridge called Happy Jax. Sabres Of Paradise played live as a band just the once there I think.

There is (or was) a big YMCA under Centrepoint at the end of TCR, don't recall anything going on there tho, apart from a swimming pool and a bar. Your description does ring a bell of some kind. Are you thinking of Primal Scream? ;)

@ Noel, you're memory is so good! Dean O'Connor is a name that had completely dissapeared from my memory!

@ Gabba Flamenco Crossover - Thanks, downloaded.

Those Sabresonic flyers fetch a fiver each on raveflyers.co.uk! To think we roached them with impunity!

I noticed on the Rotter's website that he has been blogging on there recently(ish) and that he is playing out Sunday 25/11/07 at the Queens Head, Islington. I might amble along and see what he's currently up to. I thought some others on here might be interested.
I phoned to check and tonights is cancelled. Bummer as I was hoping it would compensate for the Friday FWD debacle and I never made it to the Box of Dub launch. All in all that was a much quieter weekend than I was expecting!

Your Message Here
There's a new FACT mix from Andrew Weatherall

On the d/l as we speak, I used to love Wevvers/ Sabres as a teenager., I missed Milan 4-0 Barca in the Champs league final to see the Sabres play at the Waterfront in Norwich. (Only missed it on telly, it's not like I had tickets or anything)

There's a track off his new album which sounds exactly like the Sabres used to, like Theme or Wilmot or summat. It's great.

Edit: And can everyone please re-up all the mixes from upthread? Kthanxbye

Saw him walking down the street outside my office a couple of days ago, I think he'd been record shopping.
