Hong Kong - Nanjing - Beijing

Taking History Too Far
So, I've got to go to these three cities for work in a week and a half.

any advice? I suspect I'll have very little spare time anywhere except perhaps a half day in Beijing.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Hong Kong, but not for years so if any one has any 'must see' suggestions, then let them fly!

go to the temple of heaven in beijing... or celestial something or other... it's where the emperors greeted spring & is pretty damn spectacular... find a dumpling restaurant & eat so many with black vinegar that you can barely walk... drink beijing bai-jo (er-gwa-ter) (or something like that i've forgotten the transliteration) & get a foot massage... haven't been to beijing for several years but those were my especial delights... & going to a nightclub where - rather decadently - they had filled the urinals with rose petals...

this was closed for renovation when i was there last september/october -though it may be open now. the rest of the complex was still open including the divine music administration bit which was really fascinating. If you go there, I'd love a copy of the CD of ritual Daoist music they had playing there .. could post you a check perhaps. The Echo wall in the temple of heaven complex is wicked too.

The Dashanzi art district is really fascinating, it's a bit tricky to get to so get some good directions if you go.

The great wall is definitely worth a visit if you pick the right spot - though that would be a whole day trip and it sounds like you've not got that much time.

One of my favourite bits in Hong Kong is the herbal medicine area around des voeux road. The islands are good and there are some really nice coastal walks in the new territories. The main museum there is ace I reckon. I also like the super malls and the goldfish street.
