No I haven’t. I’ll have to make a trip. I like her shell thing on Aldeburgh beach (or is it Southwold?)
i think it's horrible myself, big pointless blob with a barbie doll sticking out of it, but don't let me put you off, and give me a shout if you do make that trip cos i live 2 minutes away

I saw a CBT therapist once and she diagnosed me within about ten minutes as "Avoidant"

She asked if I wanted to carry on with the therapy, with the understanding that I would be strongly encouraged, if not forced, to do things

I claimed that my life was in a period of transition at that time and I couldn't (such a shame) do the CBT thing at the same time

But I would do "soon"

i like to look at Bridget Riley things. My dad was very proud of a Riley print he owned. but it's a nonsense to call her a Great Painter. particularly as the person that paints them is some Lithuanian lad whose name she cant even remember (as revealed on this very forum by Edmund)

Don't think that matters one bit, that she doesn't actually paint the things herself. That is standard practice throughout the history of painting. The best Rubens paintings, in my opinion, were not painted by him.

they are not paintings actually. she is not a painter. an artist, a good one, maybe a great one, but not a painter.

The Hogarth at Tate Mod is very good. Has all the usual paintings you’d expect but also places him in an historical context - what’s going on in Paris, Amsterdam etc and how he’s influenced by, and influences, these Europeans, rather than this cliché parochial English painter. There are two fantastic Chardins in there.
The other really interesting thing is the way the curators have got other voices to talk about the content of the paintings - the sources of wealth from plantations, the black servants, other marginal voices. My wife’s friend felt it was, to use her words ‘too woke’ but I thought it was refreshing to see a gallery tackle this head on rather than go ‘yes, well…mumble mumble things were very different in the past.’

Saw the Bacon at RA today. I’ve really tried to like his work but the best I could get today was that I understood it but I didn’t really like his view of the world/people. Despite all the curator’s claim of emotion, in the end I felt there was something cold and bleak in there - the one exception was the final painting which I did think was quite moving
