Craner if you got your bird pregnant and then raised a mixed race child how would you feel about that beautiful big eyed innocent daughter reading problematic Asterix books?

fairly recently i've been in bookshops wanting to buy books for the daughters of my brother and my oldest friend and you do realise how heavily the selection is skewed to white and middle class protagonists.

David Walliams is on the verge of a twitter cancellation for rampant stereotyping, suddenly noone can remember what was any good about his books in the first place,

they are for children, and are really numerous and easy to read like roald dahl as far as i understand... i think he drops new books oftern and they are also marketed through the big chains and the big media etc so he has become a hugely best-selling author,

One of the quotes from Walliams about laughing at the misfortunes of poor people seems like it must have been taken out of context. Surely that's supposed to reflect badly on the character who thinks it?

I'm not defending his books, I'm sure they're rubbish.

The thing that Roald Dahl tapped into so brilliantly was that kids like nasty stuff. It's not even that kids ARE nasty (though plenty are), but that they like reading about horrible things.

So the stuff about projectile vomiting I'm sure goes down a storm with the littluns.

It'd be great, she'd learn a lot about the Roman empire, resistance and performance enhancing drugs.

Last night I watched a few of those Talking Heads remakes and you have to click through a warning saying that these monologues reflect values that were held by some people in the 1980s.

E.g. a woman describing Pakistanis distastefully.

But the point of it is that this woman is deeply unhappy and small minded and (almost incidentally) racist! It's not propaganda for racist ideas. Do you have to warn people that some characters in a film hold nasty views now, even if those characters are clearly supposed to be villainous?

ITS BLOODY PC GONE MENTAL
