http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/worldtoday/news/story/2007/03/070312_poetry_idol.shtml

there was this fantastic iraqi poet on saturday night - rough! very political! he was born in kuwait so i guess he's now stateless http://www.nabati.org/details.aspx?contid=36
mohamed abdu was singing too...:)

they're just presenting the prizes now for:
most romantic
best performance
presentation
we're waiting to see who gets the million....

so... how comes we don't have anything like this in uk??? or indeed any poetry on telly at all we have nuff street poets who are anxious to battle, and we have nuff seamus heaney/wendy cope types who are entertaining...? well??why?

there are no accidents
are there english translations?

yeah seems strange that there has never been a successful hiphop/MC battles show, reality or not, in the US either. it would be such an easy hit.
