Lol I've had too many years of Death In June, I actually listened to it cos it just looked like fascist industrial stuff, so they got me, intentionally or otherwise. Then I listened to it, and I realised it WAS just industrial stuff ;) , the beats could be a bit funkier though, more swing on that thing, sounds like stuff Sick n Twisted play. Good production, mind.

I'm surprised so many well read people are giving it the they are NF/WN/Nazi without knowing anything about the label or the artists.

No one's saying they are fascists... but they are undeniably flirting with far right imagery/slogans blah blah, even if it's accidental..

I've followed the label for a while for what it's worth, but the fact that the people who are commenting don't know anything about Combat almost means more to be honest; they're just looking at the imagery and promotion involved in isolation without thinking about the music... as everyone who hasn't heard of Combat will. When someone goes into a record shop to browse, the way a label presents itself is extremely important, and this thread gives you a pretty good idea of what your average uninformed punter is going to assume.

I'd disagree to some degree, I'd guess that most people here know all about the neo-nazi movement from the 70's onwards but 99.9% of people out there don't have clue about C18 nor care, so I feel that it's a little unfair to pick on this small point in this labels release schedule and make it an issue.

Even at face value I didn't make the blind jump of faith or existing programming over the images, it was clear to me that it was kung fu stuff and mixed with old school industrial images, and not even in the same way that TG did it years ago - in which very clear facist images and beliefs where held and used.

I can see your point, but I was more concerned with the way it was jumped on in very over the top pc style and some of the comments are very out of "place". Just my humble view.

I am reassured that you don't think there's an issue Martin but where's the kung fu imagery? Being ignorant here but not sure which bits are king fu? Is it the four knives?

Hi Paul, the images on the labels are kung fu throwing stars, Ninja ones I believe.

blimey bit of a surprise reading this after coming back from a sweaty dubstep rave!

Just a shed a little light on the background of the label:

1. the label manager yours truly is from singapore and of oriental background, resident in brixton for 4 years.

2. the stars on the record's artwork are, as Martin rightly pointed, vectorised images of shuriken, ninja throwing stars. The images were found via google, on a martial arts website.
You'll find shuriken of different shapes on our website which has been up for 3 years.

3. the original swastika has origins in tibet / buddhism, and was later turned to face the opposite way when it got
adopted by the nazis. Being a chinese person it's more then a little unlikely I'd be the latter sort of character or support the kind of bullshit they peddle ;)

4. White Boi (co producer for track A) is of sicilian/hungarian/welsh origin. I have no idea why he adopted that production title, he's a funny lad so I don't really care cos it's probably a little in-joke. His music's awesome so it gets released, simple as.

5. Samurai clans have existed for centuries before skinhead groups. Check wikipedia.

6. we were gonna skip over release number 18 anyway, so there.

scorn's got no problem with the name or imagery, he sees it for what it is - samurai battlefield stuff. you might even spot him on stage in a combat shirt during a gig this summer.

I know I won't be supporting the A-side of this particular release, not because of the branding or the producer's name.

I'm just not feeling it.

I play a lot of dubstep by ex-DNB producers, but they've all gone out of their way to adapt their styles,

I'm just not feeling this one or any of the Tech Itch dubstep I've heard.

Nothing personal, I play some of the other HENCH producers, this just isn't my thing.

Maybe I should check the flip though.

Combat's been putting out a lot of electro-ish stuff I've enjoyed.

fair enough, mate.

There's gonna be a steppy-ish electro EP by Point B later this year, probably 2 releases down the line.

so um just to clarify:
are you saying it's just a coincidence that the label's branding seems to be adopting neo-nazi type imagery?

The point is that on the one hand the label are good people and have used imagery that I guess they think is abrasive etc to suit the music they are releasing.

On the other hand some people here have perceived that imagery as being dodgy.

It's up to the label how they promote themselves.

what this boils down to is two possible scenarios:

a) People here are over-sensitive about this. Obviously some of us have a high level of awareness of the history of the far right in the UK. Perhaps this means our radar goes off more readily than others.

b) A number of other people will perceive the imagery in the same way. Whether or not the label is bothered by this is up to them.

I'm with Martin - in point of fact, neo Nazi imagery has not been used. Nor has the label hoped to gain from people misconstruing the imagery used. The imagery used has its own meaning which is as far as I am concerned separate from neo-Nazi politics.

I don't think the label has done anything wrong and I do think we over-reacted a bit.

this thread is absolutely ridiculous considering the amount of people on this board who like death in june, throbbing gristle or even joy division / new order.

That suggests that people here enjoy a discusion about these sort of things, doesn't it? :)

i dont think there was much discussion in this thread tbh, more jumping to conclusions and self righteous accusations.
