Burger Kings' fries are better. So are Wendys' for that matter.

agreed. and the Wendy's dollar menu is good, as it goes. i wish the UK had less McD's and BK, and a few more Wendy's in their places. (they have them in Japan and France, after all, which are two countries that are hardly renowned to being inferior to us Brits in the national cuisines stakes in general.)

I had a boss once who would send us out to get lunch and make us stop at different fast food places to get the best fries here, the best burgers there, etc.

i like their style, that's quite natty.

McD's do good breakfasts; i had one a few mornings ago, first for an extremely long time, but my stars it was so enjoyable.

just got sent some online petition to ban the vuvuzelas... 5000 people have signed it... why?!?!

well i love the sound myself, but can imagine if you live in SA and your neighbor is blasting it 24/7 at extremely high volumes, and you are accused of racism if you complain about the noise, that it can get a bit annoying...

Whut? Has this actually happened? The mind boggles.

It wouldn't be so bad if people only used them when there was a goal, or a near-goal, or to boo a foul or something, but it's just *constant*. Not that I really care to much about the WC, but I can see why people find it annoying, it's just so mindless. Reminds me of people constantly yelling 'BOLLOCKS!' at music festivals ten years ago.

i agree scott, its in SA suck it up, but it doesn't stop them being shit.... anyone saying theyre good ask yourself do you want them to come to the premier league so you cant hear anyones songs or people abusing the ref? no. course you dont.

routes

we can delay.ay.ay...
course they won't catch on in england .... imagine if someone started honking away at upton park! i can't imagine they'd be made to feel particularly welcome lol (unless, that is, england win this thing...)

btw i saw there's some filter you can use to EQ out the sound of the vuvuzelas if you REALLY can't stand it! as far as i'm concerned the standard of commentary has been so lame in this world cup i'd rather the vuvuzelas were even louder so that they drowned out the mundane, pointless and often snide observations of mick mccarthy et al..

they are quality, long tradition for the Saffas, people must just suck it up, end of.

There are other traditions in football that governing bodies attempt to over-rule come international competition: flare-fests in Italian grounds and PA announcer-supporters at Turkish ones, for instance.

That the noise is claimed to degrade the quality of play by hindering communication on the pitch should be the clincher though - supporters should have their own Vuvuzelas confiscated at the gates and be allocated a smaller number of the horns by the stadium's authorities (just as Wembley doles out natty little flags), so that there is still some 'authentic' atmosphere, without there being a chance of its becoming over-whelming.

I would imagine that Vuvuzelas were inevitably going to catch on once they came on the market. Because they are so damn loud, it only takes a small minority to hit a very early tipping point (where any other kind of noise is rendered insignificant) and lead everyone - chanters, singers, clappers - to 'join' the horn-blowers, having realised that they are utterly incapable of 'beating' them. In other words, the practice doesn't even have to been generally popular to become pre-eminent and appear to be the 'people's choice.' (cf. England's irritating band)

saw a Genoa derby once (well, seen more than one, but you know what i mean) and they had to delay it by about half an hour to let flare smoke clear.

Big tune.

You're all a bunch of babies. If people want to blow horns, let them blow horns. As one ESPN journo pointed out recently at least you have the option of blowing horns or not. Security aren't even letting kids bring bags of crisps into the Stadium because they do not co-incide with the franchising deals.

Go on though, let's ban something else.
