Wow look its jonny from the neon hospice

"Like so many of today’s academic critics, Barthes resorts to formulas, diagrams; the result, no doubt, of teaching in classrooms equipped with blackboards and chalk. Envious of the half-erased theorems—the prestigious signs—of the physicists, English teachers now compete by chalking up theorems and theories of their own, words having failed them yet again."

@craner tells a funny story of attending an amateur seminar on Beckett (given by dissensus alumni) in which ze text was turned into an elaborate series of diagrams and equations. to critique, in an Actionist fashion, this reading of Beckett Craner surreptiously passed out plastic cups of Bulgarian red until the whole audience (around 12 people) were uproariously drunk and constantly heckling and giggling. The event came to an untimely end.

This is almost true. It was an earnest group discussion, an evening seminar around said alumni's flat. But I treated it like going around to a mate's for the evening to watch Commando and took a few bottles of plonk along. I didn't realise it was going to be that serious. I did share around some booze and I did start to make amusing and facetious comments as I got more lubricated and this did start to undermine the general commitment to rigorous theory. I had a good time in the end, although "uproarious" is pushing it.

I choose to believe Luka. You clearly instigated something akin to the premiere of The Rite of Spring.
