beethoven & bmw outrage

latest heresy from evil advertising appropriators is to take the 3rd(?) movement from beethoven's ninth symphony & tweak it...

one assume from the tone of the advert that bmw have made their cars better & have had the presumption to improve beethoven...

would love to know which agency made the advert, which individual had the gall to dream it up & which composer could conceive of such a thing...

any information provided will, of course, be used with the utmost discretion & any ensuing criminal acts will not, of course, be attributable to the providers of aforementioned information

i get the gist of what your saying but I think in this case it's fairplay. I generally loathe advertising but the point is "Can u remix Beethoven"? it's just taking it into a studio environment and tweaking it, not that different from Hooked on Classics. We're talking about the scherzo here right? perhaps that's why i'm less concerned. The obvious bad example is Barber's Adagio for Strings where unmentionable things have occurred & the need for legislation seemed overriding but we can't have it both ways i'm afraid. At the end of the day none of these things damage the composers reputation or the stature of their works luckily.

why the outrage? it's an advert for a car, not a beethoven documentary. in any case bmw make very nice cars, i'm sure he would approve.

hmmm... have to disagree... yes it's the scherzo, but it's not well done, it's not interesting, it's just noodling... fucking outrage

it can definitely be well done, mozart in egypt is a stunning bit of what if? fiddling about... i seem to recall thet the premise was that Die Entführung aus dem Serail demonstrated an affinity with middle-eastern musical forms & that therefore &c. &c.

in this particular case... fucking outrage

I can't recall the advert, don't suppose anyone can find a link to it on the web?

Speaking of which, does anyone know what music is being used on the advert with the guy driving around at night, and a commentator narrating over the top about everyone else being asleep? (could be part of the track for all I know) - I'm so useless I can't even remember what manufacturer the ad is for.
