Ha! I'm sure this aint far from the truth, clearly there is a massive demand for 'stadium' dubstep,
these guys are the OG's and now their sound has developed & eventually converged with the need for a new 'BIG' dance sound for the festival crowd.
I cant really blame them for playing to their audience (when it gives them more money, women & drugs than they ever had before)
you just hope that the success doesnt completely kill their originality and they continue to release some 12"s that keep pushing the sound, maybe its wishful thinking on my part

*now where has that brazilian model gone with that big baggy . . . .

ahh money women and drugs - 3 of the worst reasons for making music.
all roads lead to hair metal.

speaking of uninteresting dubstep (even though i do like a fair amount of skream stuff), i just listened to the most recent n-type rinse podcast show...is that the kind of thing he plays all the time? it was two hours of the most monotonous, plodding boom-cha, boom-cha, boom-cha for every track, over and over and over. never listened to any of his shows before, kept waiting for a break in tempo or at least SOMETHING to happen. but no. he had coki as a guest, not sure if that made a difference.

do people really enjoy whole sets of that stuff?

i saw benga write "Ever slammed a girl and didn't know her name or number but wished you did??? I need air out now! :)" on twitter.

now that is my sort of lad. i don't understand why all you fairies on here have a problem with the lad.

he makes good old fashioned bangers, he's taken dubstep from boring old man music to the ideal music to play whilst i drive around in my 206 picking up 18 yr olds for phil time.

benga has basically become a bit of a braindead nob. even his track titles (im sure one was some boring variant on smack my bitch up) reflect his new lowered IQ. wouldnt mind if the tracks were actually really exciting but theyre just stupid and boring.

I might have mentioned this before, but the last time he played here in Toronto (about a year ago) it was one of the worst things I have ever seen in a club (second only to Kids on TV at our Pride Parade - but that was outdoors). He was off his face, stumbling about, clanging mixes, skipping needles, and playing the same tune over and over and over and over again.

On a personal level, of all the hgher profile dubstep DJ's I have met to date, only the American ones haven't been braindead nobs.

i just had a glance at his twitter and personally i'm not convinced by benga's online persona... i reckon secretly he's quite humble and respects girls and is well into vintage studio gear.

I liked his original persona - afro / spiritualism / rosary (?) beads etc.
Probably didn't go down well with the wobble audience though.

finally got the mala lp. still think its weird that they each disc has its own cat no when its packaged as a unit (would have preferred them to just be stand alone 12s in their own sleeves myself) but hey thats just griping. apart from wishing eyez had less of those ambient synths and just stuck to that riff and nothing else, its basically flawless.

there should be a dubstep movie about the stuff that these guys get up to on tour. SEX, DRUGS AND BASS. or a comedy sort of fake docu drama. about a dj/producer who dedicates himself to getting to as far down to the bottom of the low end as possible.

In my experience, not true. Except maybe the bit about being into studio gear. When I met him, it was about two and a half years ago and he was wearing those beads back then as well. He really was a bit of a bastard.

who knows...
so in all honesty, who is left in dubstep that isn't trying to be a rockstar?

dmz/deep medi crew
tectonic/punch drunk guys
cyrus
some of the tempa artists (d1/headhunter/?)
hessle crew
