To tell the truth...

All of my favorite R&B albums right now were never officially released or "old". I love Bilal's "Love For Sale" and Amerie's "Because I Love It". As for other stuff it's mostly Raphael Saadiq, Darien Brockington, Teedra Moses, Kelis's old stuff, Keyshia Cole's debut, Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, Jagged Edge, Jahiem, Lyfe Jennings (mostly his 1st album), Amel Larrieux and old Jodeci and SWV.

Every so often I have to go back and listen to older R&B groups like Intro. One.

personally, i really miss aaliyah.. 'we need a resolution' and 'more than a woman' are two of my all time favourite songs.. haven't bought much r&b since, the scene seems to have gone a bit quiet?

Did you ever check Brandy's last album, Afrodisiac? She inherited Timbaland's focus after Aaliyah died, and though this album has its share of filler it's half-brilliant, at least.

get the rihanna album good girl gone bad - it has some dreadful pop dross on there but a lot of really good R&B songs. one of the best R&B full lengths ive heard in ages. and make sure you get a jay-z-less version of umbrella!

you must hear the promise single by ciara too (her greatest hits comp is going to be pretty unbeatablle IMO).

baboon2004

Darned cockwombles.
Anything produced by Tim n Bob - mainly Bobby Valentino singles (Slow Down, Tell Me, etc)

Ryan Leslie, but you already knew that from the other thread.

Promise seconded. Get Cassie 'Don't Go Too Slow' (not on the album, I don't think) too.

sorry if i'm late but i only just heard this last week... POP song of the year so far:

usher - in this club
http://hypem.com/track/480572

even if the brilliant polow da don apparently nicked most of the tune from garageband presets or something. i've listened to this about a million times

"it's going down in aisle three / i'll bag you like some groceries"

Even better than "In This Club" is Usher's other new song that's been floating around on the net. It's called "Dat Girl Right There" and it's a killer. I heard it in a club a month ago and it comes on like a juggernaut. It's definitely one of the oddest club bangers I've heard in a while too, probably the highlight being when Ludacris's verses are pitchshifted, Battles style.

Some more awesome r&b to look out for at the moment is Cassie's new material, particularly "Thirsty" and "Official Girl" which might initially sound a tad underwhelming, but are seriously addictive. I have high hopes for the album and her particular brand of robo-funk.

Ex Destiny's Child member Michelle has surprised everyone with some genuinely awesome new songs that ditch the gospel in favour of dark electro, and has people saying she may have this year's Umbrella under her sleeves.

Danity Kane's new album has some good moments. Very European, very electro. Total stripper music all the same, but who cares? Some of the beats courtesy of Danja are really out there, and experimental. Check "Bad Girl" or "Sucka For Love."

Yeah, I was actually hoping "Dat Girl Right There" would be the first official single to be released, but I guessed it wouldn't be the case because it's a bit too haywire. I've heard the faggatronix remix played out in London, and it was good, but I kinda get annoyed how it seems anything pop or r&b needs to be remixed before someone will play it, unless of course you at somewhere like popjustice. Often I just want to hear a lot of these tunes in their natural state. I don't think it's an issue with making them more danceable either, cause I find most of these remixes actually make them less danceable.

Wynter Gordon - "Surveillance" and "Frustrated" - she could be the new r&b/pop diva. This years Ciara/Lumidee/Cassie.

Is there an rnb tune out at the minute with lyrics about being 'just a bigger villain'? If so, what is it?
