'footie'?!?! oh my days that's even worse!!!

what proper football fan ever says 'footie'??

hahah.. why can't we get this right people???

(i realise my only real contribution to this thread so far has been to moan about the name... i went to West Ham v Liverpool yesterday and would love tell you all about it... but 'footie'?? i just can't do it..)
you fickle moaners sort out a replacement name yourselves then and let me know when you've decided :p

yes they did, there's a self-made man at the heart of their initial rise a few years ago, it's quite a cute tale really.

incidentally the gate was a total fiddle, announced around 638, blatantly there were about 300 people there. they count absent season-ticket holders but even allowing for that, it was a bit fishy.
NL teams are notorious for under-counting gates for tax purposes; all present were surprised with that one.

Crawley * have set the bar high in recent years for Conference-based fiscal tomfoolery, i have to say.

* whose nickname - from fans of other NL teams, and for no good reason AFAIK - is ''Let's Go' Island', fact fans.

rugby union fan Ollie will no doubt be pleased a sweet-natured Welshman got the winning goal in today's Manchester derby.

we could have a (short-lived admittedly, but it'd be pretty vital) thread just on Conference nick-names TBH.

Cambridge, THE RIVER PLATE OF NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL, and so on.

the singers at Stevenage call themselves The Atmosphere, that sort of thing.

Stevenage fans incidentally, have a day every year when some of them go out and celebrate when it has become mathematically impossible for Woking to overtake them in the table (which happens most seasons, to be fair).

yes quite :p

i don't want the Star Lane End boys turning up and putting me on the menu.

i can talk, there were about 50 away fans at Grays yesterday. the standard of heckling was, naturally, high ;)

thread death
I used to live opposite the Grays ground. Many happy memories watching Teddy Sherringham's fat brother (amongst others) play.

Biggest crowd we had was a semi final between the local sixth form college and an East London (SFX? Maybe?) college - rammed to the rafters and the local boys won. Pint in the Bricklayer's afterwards...

happy days!

the Bricklayer's is a fine pub; the filled rolls were rated highly for crustiness and fillings yesterday. a proper beer garden too, which is more than can be said for the abomination of an excuse for a patch of greenery that away fans suffer at Kettering.

once they were having a meat raffle on in there, there was an almost northern vibe to the place, very social club style.

i must say the Dolphin Fish Bar by Grays railway station is a splendid chip shop.

i hate harry redknapp. he is a massive self-publicist. and a massive wanker.

3 wins in a row! we're not going down!!

i know forest were only in league one for three seasons, but it still doesn't feel like home in the championship yet.

@Hucks: well i didn't see today's result at Carrow coming!

I went today - we were fucking brilliant. I kind of thought we might have it in us to beat one of the top six, so I was optimistic, but I've never seen us score 4 in the first half ever. So automatic promotion is now a nailed-on certainty and we just need to kick back and let it happen ;) Or lose at Carlisle next week

re Redknapp - I don't like him and I'm sure there's plenty of (DELETED BY MODS) but the way that betting odds falling can become the news annoys me. Since when have betting odds been proof of anything? There was this whole story about Ribery joining Liverpool based on movement in the market that all turned out to be bollocks. Next time a prem manager vacancy comes up, count the number of times betting gets suspended on possible candidates. It becomes self fulfilling after a while - odds are tumbling, so there must be something in it - lump on before it's too late! And all the while ladbrokes get free publicity.

Chelsea v Liverpool match

i didn't see this.

which Reds turned up? the Rafa 'Basic Mistakes Cost Us' Benitez or the Rafa 'However it is not my Zonal Fault' Benitez?

(not to insult what may have been a total CFC performance for all i know.)
