I think you have to take into account the state of their respective teams. They can't do it all themselves and the players around them aren't always pulling their weight, e.g. Dembele.

Juventus and Barcelona are still hugely expensive teams packed with stars though. If you need need better than that around you to look good then how good are you?

Well, we've seen how good they are for over a decade and money isn't everything. As Cruyff once said, "I've never seen a bag of money score a goal,".

I don't question how good they were. I just think that at the top level now their teamwork shortcomings outweigh their still occasionally potent talents.

Yeah, maybe. I think that's just one aspect of the problems with their respective teams though. I don't think losing them or the two of them suddenly tracking back regularly would bump either club back up to their previous level.

Sure I'm just saying that they won't make tempting targets to buy at top dollar and build a team around. Messi could be a fantastic super sub for a CL team if he would take the paycut and accept that role.

I like that Ronaldo decided to score a hat trick this weekend after all the shit he was getting. It was against Cagliari, but still.

It took him over Pele's total career goals apparently. Story is that he had beaten Pele's official total but Ronaldo didn't want to claim that until he'd beaten his unofficial total which includes goals scored for the Brazilian Army Team and other kinda semi-official goals. I think he's got 770 now.
It's weird with football that these stats are so vague. Romario is credited with 772 apparently but he claims he scored 1,000 (though let's be honest, that's probably just an exaggeration.... by which I mean an outright lie).

In a complete reverse-ferret from what I said the other day (well not really but), I think it's unfair to blame Ronaldo if Juventus have gone backwards. He's banged in more than thirty a season I think and even when they got knocked out last year and the year before he was amongst the goals (yeah he was anonymous against Porto fair enough, which I suppose is why people are angry right now).
I think he's done what he was supposed to do - score loads of goals - what I criticise is the decision to bring him in and distort the team around him. There's not much he could have done - at this point in his career - than bang in loads of goals. If he's scoring that many and the team are ten points behind Inter then the rest of the team are not pulling their weight, the mistake was in thinking that he could somehow come in and magically win the CL for them. In other words he didn't meet impossible expectations.

Can't believe Ronaldo is one hundred goals ahead of Joe Bambrick*!

*As everyone knows the highest ever goalscorer from the UK who had netted 678 times when he hung up his boots in 1939
