neither City or Paris have succeded in buying their way to it though.

it's as much about momentum and luck as talent when you get to the final stages.

Of course in the final analysis there needs to be a bit of luck, a solid performance on the day, perhaps some experience that settles the nerves and allows one to perform at or near one's own top level.... but to even be in the mix you also need a billion pounds worth of talent behind you. There are only five or six teams who can possibly win or come near to winning, however much luck they have.

Love the way that the commentator realises that it's a shot and going towards goal and has time to change his whole sentence and talk about it while it's in the air cos it travels so far.

If you got 15 yards closer in 5 a side you’d never have to buy a drink again

Batistuta, Yeboah, Shearer are names for gunboat boots, but Malawi’s goal’s an epiphany

You mean in 5s if you were 15 yards nearer and you scored you would be a legend? Or something else I dunno, am I missing the point?

Think it's such a mad story to see Dembele agreeing terms with PSG for the summer

Barca sell Neymar to PSG
Spend their big dough from the sale on Coutinho & Dembele who flop immediately
Bad buys and increasing debts mean they need to flog Messi
Coutinho is such a flop he ends up going fucking Villa
Then the other big money signing fucks off to the club you got the money from to begin with, on a free

What a club

Silva's goal during the vivisection of Sporting was a killer. Sterling's wasn't bad either, but the technique to hit the rising ball so cleanly and with such ferocity after covering so much ground is amazing.
Meanwhile Mbappe scores the winner against his potential suitors from Madrid while Messi misses a penalty.

Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku set a new Premier League record for the fewest touches from a player who's played a full 90 minutes since statistics started being recorded by Opta in the 2003-04 season
Seven touches. One of those was when he took the kick off. Tuchel said it's not the time to laugh at Lukaku... which is where I disagree, I would say that it is exactly the time to laugh at him. A lot. You'd also think that a CL winning coach might notice that his main striker was not in the game and do something about it, whether bringing on someone else or making a change to the system so as to benefit the centre forward. I suppose that you could argue that they won so it doesn't really matter... but if you have a player who is not touching the ball at all then something is not right. However many runs he was making that tied up defenders or whatever, you want your goal scorer on the ball and kicking it at least in the direction of the old onion bag.

I tend to think efficiency is a measure of how much you achieve with a given amount of the resource. If you increase the achievement for the same resource you are increasing your efficiency, likewise if you decrease the use of that resource for the same result... but simply using a very small amount of the resource is only half of the story.

In other words, efficiency is a ratio of achievement to usage so when your achievement is precisely the square root of fuck all, so is your efficiency.

Tuchel seems to agree with me on this one cos despite not laughing at Lukaku he has dropped him to the bench and Havertz has already given them the lead after 8 minutes.

Also while we are on records of this kind, I notice that in the SheBelieves Cup a NZ defender weighed in with three goals - the first two in the 5th and 6th minute, then she waited a half hour before completing her hatrick. Of own goals I should add. Sadly she was substituted in the 36th minute for some reason so we'll never know what she might have gone on to achieve if she had been given the whole match.
Even so, not sure I've ever seen that before, a great effort.
