Hammersmith etc

After living in Wood Green for 2.5 years, I've decided I've punished myself enough and want to move somewhere nice. I was thinking the area around Hammersmith/Brook Green/Shepherds Bush... anyone live there/lived there and have any comments?

It's convenient for getting to Victoria where I work, and Roehampton where my girlfriend is doing her PhD, but other than that it was a bit of a guess, so any advice is more than welcome.

I used to live off the north side of Uxbridge Road, Willow Vale, pretty good area, semi-suburban tree-lined avenues, small parks, local shops, good pubs/bars, not so good for restaurants. Fantastic connections into London from where I was, direct buses to Oxford Street on the Uxbridge Road, walking distance to Shepherd's Bush/White City tubes. You may want to avoid the area near the Loftus Road stadium as it gets incredibly busy on game days. In fact the White City area is not great in general, it always seemed a bit rough to me but I never actually lived there, just walked through. South of that part of the Uxbridge Road is a bit more expensive, as far as I could tell. I obviously don't know your budget but Brook Green is very expensive.

Funny, I used to live in Wood Green myself, just before I moved to Shepherd's Bush. aah the memories of Shopping City!
