The Koln Concert was a great starting point for me and one I've gone back to again and again. To be honest I can deal with Jarrett's whooping. If I could play that guy I'd be whooping too.

I can also highly recommend Arvo Part's 'Tabula Rasa' on ECM that features Jarrett on a track called 'Fratres'.

setting aside his pastoral new-age-y offenses, and in addition to his advanced awareness of racial injustice (see above link), he also made this recording which is very nice for an autumnal morning:

I was about to say - he performed the Gurdjieff/De Hartmann piano works. Nice stuff but for Gurdjieff pieces i suggest Vassilis Tsabropoulos's "Chants, Hymns and Dances" on ECM. Amazing, incredible stuff... For even more authenticity, Harmonic Development, Gurdjieff's eery Harmonium recordings from the 40s just before his death. Talk about drearily deep compassion for the suffering of the world.

don't know the Vassilis Tsabropoulos recording, will look into it... Harmonic Development is pretty amazing... the sombre accordians really lulls me into a trance. the complete piano music 8 CD box set recorded many decades ago is also very good...

was talking to Ilpo Väisänen some time ago and he said Harmonic Development has been on constant rotation at home for quite a while...
