just for contributors to link to a single track each post, rather than a rar of the entire oeuvre of sun ra or whatever, and without an obligation to contextualise

I think it’s a great idea but a few other conditions could be added for fun:

* Your post must be accompanied with a GREAT picture of the artist or the sleeve or something else that tickles your fancy.
* You have to write AT LEAST a couple of sentences about the track in question.
* You have to state which album the track is from, when it was recorded, etc. That is, do some homework.

sure!

as long as the title is included or it's adequately id3'd then i think 2 and 3 are surplus (optional sure)

cos ultimately CONTEXT could diminish FUN

say someone posts a short dodecaphonic string quartet, and says 'x renegotiates all hitherto agreed upon tenets of western music, and as such is the most important music since y' then the 80% of d/loaders who play the first few minutes agreeably before deciding it's not-their-cup-of-tea, will only be disillusioned and feel thick or aggrieved

context is the mother of discontent

the whole point is to get away from the aggrandising and didactic affects of the ysi thread in favour of something that asks simply a little thought (selecting a single track from two dozen for instance)

there are no accidents
i was hoping the "Peculiar but Great" thread would turn into this, with people posting single tracks of shit others might not be hip to. a great way to introduce amazing and strange new sounds. but yeah. let's go.

also ZSHARE is much better than YOUSENDIT. because it allows instant play right there on the page. and also stays up longer.

and often times there are no pictures available. so first rule will have to be ignored at times.

i will post here again this Indonesian pop song with more than a little (sounds to me at least) nod to dubstep. because it's so weird and wonderful:

seems like mediafire has no file expiry so probably best everyone uses that or something similar

that way there is effectively an archive and the thread will be useful for those viewing later

the vocals are from half of querteto em cy (who sing on 'Os Afros Sambas') and half of mpb4. happy music!

wow, mediafire is FAST - and this is luscious, thanks! - have you got the 60s & 70s Canto Morricone song collections? many amazing tracks, only a few twee or eurovision-esque, some fantastic bombastic arrangements and occasional evil fuzz guitar lurking in the background

sounds nice, def interested. only other morricone i have is a 'very best of' comp w/ the good, the bad the ugly etc.

anyway, heres a track from Booker Ervin's 'heavy!!' - Bei Mir Bist Du Schon. it is indeed heavy - check jaki byards solo towards the end, killer!

some more jazz:

Come Sunday: a duet b/w eric dolphy and richard davis, from the 'Complete Memorial Album Sessions'

Afternoon by Jimmy Giuffre 3 - a trio of bass, piano and clarinet. the music is quite 'free' but very melodic also - this is one of the more accessible songs from the disc...

enjoy!

I can't figure out whether I like this entirely because of the immense sound behind it or whether the concept figures into it, but anyway..

From a live album, "Shiburyu," this is the song "Barthasar" by the Shibusashirazu Orchestra, a 30+ free jazz band from Japan featuring an orchestra, Butoh dancers, modern dancers, theater actors, and painters. Shit is bizarre, there is youtube but it doesn't do it justice. Great stuff though.

nice

a slightly arid quartet by toshio hosokawa

this is where context is sort of superfluous since i can't remember anything about the composer and would have to just c&p off a search engine
