This is on that DJ Antman mixtape Tim linked on here ages ago.

What kind of house music is this? Is it the 'bland commercial Hed Kandi' stuff that people slate when talking about funky house? What kind of labels/artists are good in this style?

I love this kind of tune in a funky set, though.

yeah that one's quite good as well. the strings do it for me as much as the vocals.

then there's "can you kiss me there" obv.

Possibly people who slate Hed Kandi are thinking of this kinda thing, though I associate Hed Kandi more with shiny souped-up disco-house than something this gentle and genteel. Never trust people who complain about "wine bar house" and etc, basically, they're useless at fine distinctions and almost invariably mean "all that house I don't listen to".

If you like this stuff check Frankie Feliciano, whose stuff all sounds like this as far as I can tell, but often to great effect - his remix of Ralf Gum's "Kissing Strangers" was an early UK Funky anthem alongside the Dennis Ferrer remix of "Cure & The Cause".

More generally I can strongly recommend the Body & Soul mixes by Danny Krivit, Francois K and Joe Claussel, which mix tracks like this with spacier material in order to create that slightly oxymoronic hybrid-genre intergalatic-soulful-house.

The chorus for that 'Lights On' tune is biiiig, not really feeling the verses that much though.

Geeneus is a fucking good producer isn't he? Still playing the ''Yellowtail'' EP.

What
er does anyone know the date of that event at if? or am i just being dumb and missing it?

i don't mind putting on my clarks for that, it's the 'no effort no entry' bit that always worries me, bit of a subjective criterion if you ask me.

bobbin

What
good point, 'no effort' could hardly be a criticism there. off to go shopping, probably pick up a monocle and a pocket watch as well.

all classic uk funky dress combos, tho the deerstalker shouldnt be overlooked. on a serious, musical note smutlee has done a blend of busy signal's da style deh and rass out which is fyaaaah, and well worth watching out for.

there is a subjective thing but it tends to be to give the bouncers leeway to turn away people that look like trouble. i cant imagine they'll be picking on dissensus users

Tim F posted this on ILX, fucking brilliant - and I never thought I'd say that about anything involving Cheryl Cole in a non-visual format.
