Do Brits make the best breakfasts in the world?

Speaking of which, I tried a blue cheese called Stichelton last week and I have to say it surpassed both of these - very strong and quite similar to Roquefort but with a little extra oomph

http://www.stichelton.co.uk/

yeah that's the unpasteurised stilton innit (although i think because it's made outside the stilton appelation controlee area- or whatever the equivalent is- it can't be called stilton). lovely stuff, bought a load of it for xmas.

my favourite blue cheese at the moment is Picos d'europa from spain. it's wrapped in leaves, which is pretty cool.

Guess that's the one - although to me it tastes both sharper and creamier than Stilton, more like a sheep's cheese or something.

Also popular round these parts, it's got a kind of slightly vinegary taste near the leaves I think but not in a bad way.

Great thread!

OK, I'm now on a gluten-free diet so my fry ups have had to be slightly altered:

4-6 Slices of gluten-free toast (Usually by Ener-g)
2 Black Farmer Sausages (90% meat from prime cuts of pork)http://www.theblackfarmer.com/
2 rashers of good quality bacon
1/2 can of Heinz baked beans
2 Scrambled/Fried eggs
2/3 Slices of cheese (any kind)
Ketchup, black pepper

1 Tea (not too fussed on brand)
1 Medium glass of Orange Juice (any good brand)

Optional:
Mushrooms
Chips
Fried toast

where can i get this? borough/broadway market? or brindisa maybe? i will look out for it.

in terms of mixing things with scrambled eggs for breakfast, the spanish have the market cornered afaic. with spinach and pimenton (spicy paprika, get it from brindisa, highly recommended) is sublime... or with chorizo and red pepper and shitloads of garlic.

then there are the fish options: with crab, with smoked salmon.

obviously sometimes you just want scrambled eggs on their own.

Chips for breakfast? Fuck me, why not go the whole hog

now that would be a fine breakfast.

Breakfast: three fried-egg sandwiches, with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise, two cups of coffee, an omelette, a bowl of porridge, three slices of French toast and three chocolate chip pancakes

Mushrooms are not "optional".

Ain't that the truth!

A housemate of mine, who doesn't dig shrooms, gets one of these organic vegetable boxes delivered once a week - it's pot luck as to what you get and they usually throw in a handful of these big fat fuckers...

...which naturally end up being eaten by me.

All sounds very good - is Brindisa at Borough market?

i got black pudding from a french market on holiday. oh boy oh boy oh boy. we did it on the barbecue, it had the biggest lumps of fat i'd ever seen in it and when you bit into it it was all warm and gooey in the inside. an absolute delight.

hey yeah sorry, it's in borough market and also exmouth market:
http://www.brindisa.com/retail_home.asp

a lot of the stuff in there is very expensive... the dried peppers, bundles of 'stock herbs', and above all the pimenton are very cheap though - and def worth getting if you want to cook anything spanish. i use pimenton in about half the stuff i cook now.

why do i always end up reading the 'best breakfasts' thread when i haven't had any breakfast and am absolutely famished :(

Hurrah for made-up-on-the-spot breakfasts. I just ate something I think I'll call mushrooms-pancetta-olives-and-chickpeas-fried-in-butter-and-olive-oil-with-garlic-basil-and-tabasco. If anyone wants the recipe, they can send me a PM.
