Do Brits make the best breakfasts in the world?

that norwegian brown cheese is vile! i had a norwegian girlfriend a few years ago and she would always be eating that shit. all sweet and musky, disgusting. i am always up for a bit of jarlsberg however.

Climbers' and cavers' cafes tend to be a good bet for a decent fry up - anyone know Pete's Eats in Llanberis, Inglesports in Ingleton, the Outside cafe in Hathersage, Eric's at Tremadoc?

Generally in the morning I have 2 slices of brown bread toast with spaghetti on one and a poached egg on the other. On the weekend however it’s ‘the heartstopper’ which consists of: 4 slices of fried Bacon, 3 fried sausages, 2 fried eggs, all sitting in between 2 slices of fried slices. There is a variation in which you just have it all as a fry up, with some chips aswell. I also love chocolate croissants, especially the Tesco ones, mmm...

Some really nice recommendations in this thread though, it’s made me starving!! :)

Get some black pudding and baked beans in that fried sandwich!

Today I've gone for the Greggs steak bake in a buttered roll. Quite budget (apart from the roll costing 30p or something ridiculous like that) but the way the hot gravy melts the butter and gels the pastry & bread together is a rare pleasure.

Looking forward to NYC breakfasts in September, last time I was there a simple bacon & eggs was enough to keep me going til well after dinnertime. It's a bit of a double edged sword though, because the price of my morning enjoyment is that I likely won't indulge in any other tasty treats through the day.

huevos bravas = my new favourite breakfast.

it's amazing. pan fried potatos, red onion, garlic, peppers, chipotle (smoked/dried jalapenos), chorizo, with two fried or poached eggs on top.

You can do a great weekend brunch dish by cooking up a basic tomato sauce (ie fry up a clove or two of crushed garlic and a few chilli flakes in olive oil, bung in a tin of tomatoes, season and cook slowly for twenty mins) and then poaching a couple of eggs on top of the sauce and serving it up on thick slices of white toast, with the egg unloaded first and the sauce spooned over the top. Yum.

Bacon, eggs and plantain today, just straight up (well, S&P on the eggs and Tabasco on the eggs and plantain). So simple, so good.

Yeah the Mexican Cool Chile stall in the outdoor bit round the back of Borough Market has all your Mexican chilli needs. Not the outdoor bit near the cathedral which sells the cheese sandwiches and stuff to eat there, the other bit round the back in the car park off Stoney Street.

The veg and fruit arch on Druid Street in Bermondsey next to the dodgy second hand Porsche dealer has fresh poblanos and jalapenos at the moment too, which are really nice.

I feel compelled to visit Druid Street for the name alone...

Isn't it a great name? It's in 'Bermondsey Spa' now I think it's called, or 'Bermondsey Village'. It's a little bit of West London just for us.

I think the grocers is only open on Saturdays, or maybe it's open weekday mornings but I'm never round there then. If you go on Saturday and wear brogues you can get a coffee from the Monmouth Coffee House round the corner and stand outside with your slightly dishevelled child and stupid fucking Boston terrier looking like a cunt.

Had a great black pudding (well morcela) the other day in a restaurant. Often the Portuguese ones tend to have too many hard lumps of fat that spoil the texture. This one was just right however. Served with small pieces of pineapple weirdly enough but it worked very well.
Mr Tea, have you had this hogs pudding thing? Sounds a bit like white pudding to me but I think it's native to your neck of the woods.

Sounds great anyhow.

For me decent bacon is the key. I had 1/2 full English for lunch but here in Portugal you can't get decent bacon. It's a bit placcy and you just eat it for a bit of bacon flavour. Smoked Danish is IT.
Decent tea is impossible here too. It's like gnat's piss. Though people are disgusted when you say that you drink tea with milk. It's a slice of lemon for these lilly-livers.
I'm resurrecting Jonesy's comment from 2008 to say how he is spot on about tea here. I use a minimum of two tea-bags per cup just to get a bit of a brown colour to it.

Actually no, I've never heard of it, but it does sound great. They might have it, or be able to order it, from the butcher's near me. The have great things like venison and black pudding sausages, which were every bit as delicious as they sound.

I've had St George's mushrooms with scrambled eggs and blue cheese for breakfast the last two mornings. Fucking delicious.
