The Wire is over - discussion, spoilers inside

Have to say that, as an American, it was painful to hear Elba try to do his accent. Comical at times.

Complete opposite with Dominic West, could have sworn he was Baltimore born and bred.
I could even hear Idris wasn't right.
Weird bit when McNulty has to pretend to do an English accent so you have... well, all those layers, you know what I mean.
Great performance from West... almost up there with his turn as Fred West, disturbingly good.

to a lesser degree, Dominic west was also really good in the season of "Fargo" where he played both brothers. I didn't read up on it beforehand and didn't even realize it until about the third episode.

Girlfriend has a bit of a minor obsession with serial killers I'm slowly realising, we watched the Dennis Nielsen one the other day... Appropriate Adult is the one though.

Back to The Wire, the other one who shoulda gone on to big things was Bodie... also Kimya, Freamon... but Bodie was particularly watchable.

bodie was one of those people who are good at playing a naive idiot which is not as saleable as a stringer bell who is good at playing a hunky charismatic alpha male maybe?

Could be... he was great in that role but terrible in auditions, who knows? Don't think naive idiot describes that character, there was a lot more to him than that

biding her time?
Doesn't work like that - I know this very well cos now I have watched multiple documentaries and dramatisations about Jack the Ripper, Ted Bundy, Gacey, West, HH Holmes, Nielsen, Dahmer, Long Island Killer etc etc

Did anyone else wish Bubbles would have just died (fictionally)? He iv’d endlessly and somehow made it through hiv, his mate fucking up, buying gear with fake money, becoming a free trader, getting ripped off/head filled in

Last series halfway through could’ve been the ideal time just to rupture any flow. More stark, more realistic, “it’s the hope that kills you“ etc

Not being misanthropic
I feel like they maybe had that on the table as an idea but wanted to put him through the whole redemption storyline after he accidentally kills his new protégé.

I've not really thought about it much, bit the whole AA scene and addiction counselling that goes on in America is this huge narrative they wanted to tap into?

The reason I started rewatching the wire was cos I started watching Oz from the beginning. And bodie is in that!

Oz is good but it just made me want to watch the wire again. It doesn't move on enough.

They got it just right with the wire. The corner is good but quite theatrical, too much non naturalistic storytelling. And Oz is just so bleak.
