Rustie

Fuck me........ I saw this fella... maybe a year and a half or more ago, playing hyphy records before Lory D. he was brilliant. i totally forgot his name and in the mean time heard the music he has been putting out and thought it was great. Only recently did someone make me realise that the two were, indeed, the same person. I have to say i'm loving what he's doing like.

I usually hate when people describe something as a mixture between this and that, but he does sound quite like a mix between drexciya and dilla.

after reading it, it has hit me this post has absolutely no point. hmm.

i guess i better make one!

i haven't seen much talk round these parts about him come to think about it. this could be due to my lack of much interest before recently though.

what are people thinking of rustie in general?

Playing in Newcastle soon isn't he?

Know nothing about him, but I've got that remix of Zomby's 'Spliff dub', and thats pretty great.

Definitely mate, I'll be making the effort to go down to this, let you know nearer the time.

The tunes on his myspace sound pretty mental, I really like it. Haven't heard it but that 'Jagz the smack' ep that he done is supposed to be good isn't it?

I'm a fan! Rustie is awesome.

his tracks are the link between the dubstep tunes and the crunk tunes AND the breakcore tunes AND the bmore tunes in my sets. Super-varied, interesting breaks, more danceable than much of the halfstep, but darker, syncopated and not synthy, quite mixable as well and bumpin on their own.

seems to me theres definitely some kind of synthy/wonky/post grime sound/chiptunes emerging, which i covered here with Joker and Guido, Quarta 330, Icekid, Maniac, Ryan Leslie but could also loosely be expanded to include the recent Hyperdub output with Rustie, Ikonika, Darkstar and Zomby...

^definitely. i absolutely love it as well, always been a fan of the wonky donkeys and i think it works amazingly well within the dubstep/grime template. i still listen to that kode9 B2B flying lotus set from last year once a week at least - just amazing stuff.

didn't rate 'jagz the smack' as much as others but that track 'response' is just ridiculous. think i might visit some friends in manchester to coincide with RZA/flying lotus/rustie - that lineup is too good to miss i reckon. saw flying lotus at plastic people last night and he absolutely smacked it, as well.

Pretty sick really - Flying Lotus was banging, dancing around behind the decks and being animated and generally the anti-Youngsta. I am not overly familiar with his stuff to be honest but the PP system is so good and thorough it all sounded great. Hiss support guy was also fantastic I thought - i literally cannot give a name the music he was playing, anyone help? Kode9 was also good but I was tired and left a ltitle early.

Hudson Mohawke was on before Rustie at Gramophone last week and (from what i remember which isn't that much tbh) he played instrumental and very fragmented kind-of hip-hop. I do know he's just signed to Warp tho ad they both have EP's out this or next week.

ALSO- Flying Lotus and Gaslamp Killer are back in London next month- i'll check when and post it in events. I have a few mixes of GK's and he mixes loads of obscure psychedelic rock (60's) but has just released a new single which i guess is beat-orientated so i wonder if that will be an Edan type thing but i'm totally guessing at this so i'll shut up now.
