Where to start with Swans

I honestly look at God as "Swans meant for people like me, who had dads who played Jazz." so I prefer that band compared to early Swans. Stuff like this though was excellent for a melancholy teenaged Crowley.

God! Nice one. The Anatomy of Addiction is one of my favourite albums.

I find the God stuff much more immersive and flowing than early Swans but I think the thing they have in common is that they're both surprisingly funky. When Swans played here they did what was clearly a very early track and you could see people in the audience actively trying NOT to dance.

It's not a fashionable view apparently but I think most Swans is charlatanry, and the only album I like is 'The Burning World'. This is probably because it has some nice tunes and good arrangements full of Bill Laswell's friends, all of whom are musicians.

Also I heard this guy Gira likes to tell venues to shut off the air conditioning to create a "sweat lodge" effect at Swans shows. To me this is properly cuntish - I hate going to gigs anyway and some prick trying to make me even more uncomfortable is beyond the beyond.

This year I saw Gira solo in May and Swans a month ago. I go and see them whenever I can and it reaffirms something impossible to express every time. It happens extremely rarely with music. I tried to explain this to Gira chatting after a gig but I failed - I can barely say anything at all after a Swans concert. He is a wonderful, generous, beautiful man. The music has been totaly ecstatic on the last couple tours. I remember a gig in 97 in a small venue in Copenhagen, it was the most contradictory music experience I have ever had. I wanted to leave and stay in equal measures. The volume really hurt my head. I don't think he's trying to hurt anyone though.

considering seeing them when they hit london next month but given that listening to their music on headphones alone has induced panic attacks in me i dont know if i'd cope
