I thoroughly enjoyed this but was dismayed to discover that Dalston slice actually exists and isn't the invention of a comic genius.

haha several people have said this to me now. it's all too true...

i finally visited dalston mill on thursday.. so underwhelming. a bit of wheat, round the back of some abandoned houses. not really the headfuck-recontextualising of urban decay/rural fecundity i was expecting.

Another, at 15 — selling whistles costing 3p on eBay for £2 a pop at the Stop the War march — earned him more than £1,000 in one day.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Seriously, there's at least 500 cunts who paid £2 for a whistle.

Then he says to the photographer, with calm authority: “Could we do this quickly because I don’t have long?” The photographer looks rather impressed (and he is, he calls me afterwards wanting to know more about “that guy I photographed today”.)

Yeah, I'd LOVE to see him try that on with some of the snappers we use...

Incidentally, I just looked at the Platform site. It's literally Diet Vice. Are you sure this isn't a massive wind-up?

I was actually going to send that to you for the blog without mentioning that it's "real". :p

ha nice idea, but this wouldn't have worked, i know him/of him v tenuously. alex said to me that he isn't actually as much a douche as he sounds, kinda a pretty nice guy - while everything in that article is actually nonetheless true. it's difficult to get your head around but i buy it. after all how many people look awesome on paper but are unmitigated wankers?

I notice that the headline on the Hackney Gazette at the weekend was "Sex Beast Ripped Off Victim's False Arm".
Anyway, has anyone been to this Pier One Nightspot in Dalston? Any good?

i still can't believe they renamed that turkish place ART CAFE...
also, they're currently shooting a new Jason Statham film on Sandringham Road...as i walked past i asked a runner what it was called, she rolled her eyes and said "i think it's 'girder'...or 'crank'...or 'wrench'...or something like that"

Ridley Road Market Improvement Scheme

What is it?

Ridley Road Market is at the heart of Dalston town centre, and is one of the most popular Hackney markets. It is the only market in the Borough that trades every weekday as well as Saturdays.

Ridley Road Market is well known in the wider London area and attracts a large number of visitors. The market offers a wide range of commodities such as foods from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Mediterranean, clothing and household goods.

The market at the moment faces significant challenges, such as a run down street environment with damaged street furniture and market stall electrical units. For these reasons Hackney Council has allocated £1million to improve the area. Our aim is to make the market more inviting for existing visitors and to attract more people to the area.

We are also working with landscape architects to develop a new market pitch layout, in consultation with the traders and the shops. This will aim to further improve the visitor experience and day-to-day working of the market.

Have your say

The consultation for this scheme involves two phases:

Consultation phase 2: wider stakeholders

A public consultation event will be held on Thursday 10 September 2009 from 3:30pm to 8:30pm at Centerprise Trust, 136 Kingsland High Street, E8 2NS.
