Two reasons to be happy this week

my brother does hunting tours now. Always posting photos of him in front of 20 dead birds. its the type of thing that would disappoint the family if it were my sister or I but he's such career bungler that were all just happy he's found a thing

Ive seen a little bit of it. Felt like one of those films I might have watched in highschool because it was so twisted and fucked. which is kinda van triers thing already but I feel like its usually not so gauche

Yeah I think it had points where it was little more than gruesome provocation and transgression. A couple people walked out when I saw it in theaters. I loved it, though.

I didnt really give it a fair shot, only caught maybe 30 or so minutes while my roommate was watching it. but it felt like a movie Id already seen 10 different versions of and I felt nothing

Not sure if I've ever gotten from a film so clear an impression that the filmmaker was trying to offend the viewer. I'm sure there are way more extreme examples out there, I just haven't ventured into those waters.

Yeah really its nothing that special. There are definitely some good, original scenes though.

I dont even think I saw that many of them but I feel like I was very into that sort of thing for a few years, the idea of it. Version has probably seen every one with directors commentary aswell

these movies basically

Yeah this covers a lot of the transgressive canon.

Haven't seen Salo, but that I think may be at the top in terms of auteur transgression. Maybe Irreversible too, but I haven't seen that either.

Antichrist I've seen, and I liked. I like the really intense ones, especially if they have some philosophic angle to them. Breaking the Waves is another good and intense von Trier one.

Some of that list enters just exploitation territory, like Eli Roth and whatnot, which interests me less than von Trier and just the really heavy, intense films.

Yeah I just recommended that he see The Card Counter which came out last year. Some good, intense scenes in that one.

Actually now that I think about it, few films I've seen were so successful in terms of establishing such a heavy atmosphere. This film made it seem easy.

Like I have no interest in the human centipede films, but I may watch Salo eventually.

i never beleived in arguing on the internet. i always just thought that if anyone contradicted you should just go thermonuclear on them, just be massively abusive straight away. i still basically beleive this. dont argue, just abuse and poison.
