No Future for the GOP?

I already know what's going to happen, I think.

Obama is going to be competent. Not stellar, but competent.

This alone is going to seem impressive to Americans after years of three ring circus going on in Washington.

This all happens as the Old White Man generation slowly dies off, their power and control over American political life dying with them, while a new Minority Majority generation comes into power.

This new Minority Majority generation is too young to remember firebombs in southern churchs. So it comes with all new challenges of its own. Old school racism predicated upon economic disparity still exists, but it is not continually driven home by Old White Men in power intentionally widening the gap.

Obama wins second term, goes down in history as a Sea Change president.

How long until non-whites are projected to be in the majority? And how much longer, if you factor out all the illegals (ie those ineligible to vote)?

off topic and mean of me - i am about to kick a puppy, some might argue - but i have been sitting on this for ages and don't think anybody else has brought it up.

just before the POTUSA election, it seems Naomi Wolf was a little jumpy:

Under the coming Palin-Rove police state, you will witness the plans now underway to bring Iraqi troops to patrol the streets of our nation.

it's all here.

(she actually embarrasses herself even more than the little taster in the full piece.)

i am a Freemason and claim my five euro gift certificate.

I actually have a sly cursh on Arianna Huffington, despite her silliness. She actually wrote a nice (nasty) book about Picasso back in her better days. I like her accent, it does something to me.

Nothing mean about another meanie leaving the GOP
Bye Chip, maybe you can find work for the RIAA ...

good riddance to bad rubbish.

as for the crushes, well, there's an episode of Northern Exposure once where the radio DJ character reveals he crushes on Janet Reno (?!?) IIRC.

he said he had a thing for her ear lobes as i remember, power trip.

that was a good episode

Thanks for that Nomadthesecond.
I would think possibly even sooner .

Like the timing of your reply, coming after the article link I posted earlier about the
not so new xenophobes as it does ...

Ahhh, the ice is melting round town by today !

I, for one, am excited--for the coming non-white majority and the snow melting.

Edit: Hasn't the Times been especially good lately? I think it has...

thanks for keeping the reading coming up on the GOP polystyle, that new nativism link was particularly dispiriting, the Times' characterisation of their campaigning as relentlessly harsh is bang OTM

i just saw an impressive NYT article re 'Slain Exile Detailed Cruelty of the Ruler of Chechnya' so if that's any guide applaud their reportage!

That was pretty rough stuff over in Chechyna, so much goes on that barely - or rarely makes it out.

A Republican source says newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has requested the resignations of the entire RNC staff and signaled a dramatic turnover at the party organization.

Some aides may be retained, though Republicans are under the impression that Steele will lead a large-scale changeover in the institution, which has about 100 staffers. Obama's new team at the Democratic National Committee also requested mass resignations.

Many, including communications staffers, have been told their last day is Feb. 15.

Some senior aides expected the changes and voluntarily submitted their resignations soon after Steele's election, and many have already found new jobs; some of the managers are now working on finding new jobs for their staffers, I'm told. One of those: Political director Rich Beeson is headed back to the phone vender FLS Connect, where he will resume his partnership.

A Steele aide didn't respond to a request for comment.
