No Future for the GOP?

He's actually lost his edge on the nicknames. "Crooked Hillary" might sound dumb but it was perfect branding that solidified in the minds of many voters, could say similar things abut "Sleepy Joe", "Liddle Marco" and "Rocket Man". But lately he's come out with more convoluted names that don't roll off the tongue as well: this one for DeSantis, "Broken Old Crow" (Mitch McConnell), "Coco (McConnell's wife Elaine Chao).

I think he's sundowning.

What is this Coco thing? I saw him saying it the other day and it was being described as a racist slur but I don't get the reference...

How are the votes going today anyhow? Did I see Dems winning unexpectedly in - appropriately enough - Florida?

No they're rivals... I guess they are competing for the same votes... there is only room for one Trump in the party I suppose.
Yeah, I looked it up and read about this afterwards. Hadn't realised he'd thrown his hat into the ring for 2024.

DeSantis hasn't declared a run for president, he just won reelection for governor last night. But if he decides to run, the campaign begins next year.

But the fact that he won the governor's race by 20 points, coupled with Trump's poor performance in endorsements, makes it a lot more likely DeSantis will run. It'll be an ugly race. Trump may not win the GOP nomination, but he won't go easily or quietly. It'll be brutal.

But Mr. Trump added, in remarks published on Tuesday by The Wall Street Journal, “If he did run, I will tell you things about him that won’t be very flattering. I know more about him than anybody other than perhaps his wife, who is really running his campaign.”

The former president, preparing to announce a rare candidacy for the White House after a defeat, was thus openly threatening to smear the person who would be considered his leading rival, should he choose to run.

Mr. Trump, who for decades threatened business rivals and partners, reporters and critics alike with lawsuits or the possibility of being humiliated, has taken slash-and-burn politics to new heights....But now, advisers say, Mr. Trump is quicker to anger and frequently in a state of near-rage about not being president anymore.

I love how Trump had to add in the dig about DeSantis' wife, her being the one "who is really running his campaign". Like he can't do it himself, he needs a woman to do it.

@Leo - how much sway does the NYP have on (Republican) voters, would you say? I mean is this equivalent to the Sun backing this or that contender for a Tory leadership race? (OK, probably a bad analogy since I expect most Tory party members probably read the Mail or Telegraph - but you know what I mean.)

It's significant in the sense that they are a leading US newspaper for News Corp (aka, Fox), and they are Trump's hometown paper who he used feed gossip to for their Page Six column for decades. It might not be read by Republicans across the country, but it sends a strong signal which way Murdoch is moving. This isn't the first time in the past year or two the Post has turned away from Trump, they went a little sour after January 6.

In Trump's mind, a front page like that is the ultimate betrayal, a dagger to his heart. He's so thin-skinned, it'll make his head explode.

The very idea of this is giving me a warm glow all over.

Ha, I just saw this on Imgur and came straight to this thread to post it.

But yeah, the Murdoch-Trump love-in is clearly very, very over.

Like Tea, I was ready to post this one too.

Solid trolling here: note the use of "Don", which he HATES.

Good spot, it never crossed my mind to actually consider who might have written the article and I certainly never thought of looking to see if it was revealed in the text. How the fuck is Moron involved? Is he a regular contributor to that august organ?

Selections from Cawthorn’s gallery of greatest-hit controversies include sexual abuse allegations dating back to his college years; accusations of insider trading; being stopped for attempting to bring a gun through airport security (twice); being pictured wearing women’s lingerie; being filmed while nude and thrusting his crotch into another man’s face; and that time he heavily implied that members of his very own Grand Old Party made a habit of inviting him to cocaine-fueled orgies.

In the wake of his defeat, Cawthorn reportedly skipped town, vacating his D.C. office two months ahead of time, according to the Asheville Citizen Times.
