i know this isn't strictly music but since tony hart died, i just want to remind everyone how amazing the original music for the gallery was, as well as the credits and the music for that:

it sounds like a little requiem today doesn't it?
Not just for him, but slower simpler telly, i wonder whos decision it was to try and make childrens television faster and snappier, i can't think of a worse idea.

i blame timmy mallett

hmm yeah or those terrible american disney cartoons with their knowing jokes, that shot past so you couldn't remember they're shit. The european ones like city of gold which went on forever were very popular.

I don't tend to join threads about people who've died - not 'cause I don't agree with them in principle, more 'cause I've nothing to say - and I'm not a big fan of nostalgia in general but it has to be said that this last year or so has been terrible in terms of the number of people who have meant something to me (and loads of other people obviously) who have died. Nothing else to say except that it's just very sad.

extended cathode ray tube family, alot of us were brought up in front of the telly, i was saying to my girlfriend how i'd watch this and then draw all day, fill books with drawings, ( old outdated unused diaries my dad would bring back from work) all summer with an aim to get on the gallery.

yeah it's a sad state of affairs, it's not just kids tv though. we just don't seem to be allowed the time to dream anymore. incidentally i suffer panic attacks at cinemas and i think one of the reasons is sensory overload from fast edits.

Beast of Burden
He had some amazing assistants on Hartbeat - including one lovely art student who made a pinball machine out of cardboard! My seven year-old mind boggled.

Poor Morph.

I work with somebody who looks like Morph.

i was never really that into morph and his stupid mate chaz, they detracted from the business of bits of paper and smudgy paint or whatever slowly transforming into artwork.
They also had annoying voices, realy irritating nasal muffly voices.

Bring out the vacuum
Man, Morph & Chaz and their dog (a brush) were the only thing I cared about on that show! (Whichever iteration it was - Vision On?)

Tony Hart's drawings were great though. Awesome idea to put forward some programming that deaf kids would be into.

NZ imported a lot of British kids' shows. These Tony Hart ones, Rainbow, Sooty & Sweep, Supergran, Banana Man, the legendary Danger Mouse...

I watched an episode of Pingu a few years ago and there was a scene that really surprised me. The penguin was able to jump up & down. He was literally in the air. How is that achievable in plasticene animation, surely it's done by still photography. The only explanation I have for this is that Pingu must be real.
