OK then...

Who would be classified as the top singjays for me to check out?

my favourite vocalists who i'd consider to be singjays at least sometimes:

- (early) sizzla
- terry ganzie
- tony rebel
- mr vegas
- mavado

i dunno if i'd include people like Pliers and Pinchers or the likes of Wayne Wonder and Demarco who both sing and deejay - probably not but they're good still

Pablo Gad also did this tune - Hard Times - that features the famously sampled line 'when i was a youth i used to bun collie weed in a rizla' (from 3m 14s)

1. Sufi's 'roots from yard' blog gets a mention/link in this week's popbitch.

2. Pressure Sounds' new Delroy Wilson release is a marvel.

As you were...

Anyone know the name of the first tune on that epic rhythm and sound dub 45 mix, the one with just bass, percussion and a trombone? its super deep. Its the one before this tune which is possibly my favourite reggae tune:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

here's a link to the set if u aint got it.

Also if anyone can identify any of the other versions of that maytones riddim at the beginning (I think its an augustus pablo riddim) that would be amazing. I keep coming back to this mix all the time, for years. Its masterful.

Mechanical phantoms
I only found out the other day that Mick Hucknall owned the Blood and Fire label, which makes up for releasing some seriously crap music as far as I'm concerned
