heavy heavy monster sound
You absolutely have to play this out. It's a must.

Is that you sampling 'wherever i lay my hat' on your myspace, or is that on the tune? I sing that bit of that tune all the time.

Nice one! thanks Mr Baboon glad you enjoyed it.

Waking Up has to be one of my fave tunes of all time. First heard it in 1994 and been playing it constantly ever since, never get tired of it :D

If you liked that you might like this one too (got another Nicolette tune that cheekily samples Strings of Life)

Darned cockwombles.
Nice, thank you - not heard that Nicolette tune, I don't think. Liking the injection of Madlib and London Sum'ting.

As mistersloane says, you really have to play all this out, if you're not doing so already.

Haven't been playing out since i moved to London some years ago (apart from a recent disastrous residency at the Pitcher & Piano in Holborn).
I was supposed to play at a D.O.T.S. night last year but nobody turned up and it got cancelled.
Still hoping to get another D.O.T.S. set have to get on to Georgie about that.
Basically I was putting up this mix and another faster tempo Dubstep and Jungly one and then was going to advertise on here for any DJ's round my way who might be interested in starting a night somewhere.....

'Wherever I lay my hat' ? I'm not sure what bit you mean, sorry, I recorded those mixes ages ago. Which track is it on?

Basically I had to play chart music and bad R&B to a half empty bar of disinterested office workers through a shit sound system with no bass.

The manager is an old friend of mine and he used to come to a night I ran in Canterbury when I was a student there which was really successful cos I could play what I loved and people were into it.
He wanted to emulate this without considering all the differences that made it impossible.
On the bright side the money I got from doing it for 4 weeks paid for most of my Traktor Scratch Pro + new laptop setup :D
Then the night got credit crunched......

Where did you play in Canterbury? The idea of a good night in Canterbury actually blows my mind, though I haven't been there in years.

A pub called The Beercart Arms on Beercart Lane, it was on O'Neil's chain pub when I started playing there, then it changed hands and became the Beercart I think they do a lot of live music and stuff there now but there was nothing happening there when I started. This was 2001 ish

Yeah it's a pretty dead place, we used to throw loads of house parties cos there was nothing else to do

the mix and eqing on 'i like her' into 'skanker' is just brilliant. sounds like some 10-years-future production

It's on the Burial one, the line is 'I'm the typa guy, who is always..."

"I'm the typa guy who is always on the road"

it's not a sample it's just the end of the previous tune

Brazen - Always on the road

Yeah it's a bugger for sticking in your head that one

the myspace samples are cut from full length mixes

the full length mix is here

:D thanks! that's what it's all about for me, creating something new with the long mixes.
I love mixing dancehall with..... well anything really, used to do a lot into jungle, but you're right into techno or funky sounds more future.
I prefer the Computer Madness into Fingaprint one myself, it's annoying that there aren't more 130 bpm dancehall tunes A few of the ones on this mix are at +10 which is a bit of a stretch

I posted about the dancehall / funky thing in the funky/london/uk house thread with a link to this mix but got completely ignored. Is it a Dissensus faux pas to post mixes in threads like that?

i think no-one on dissensus gives a shit about recent dancehall basically.

heres some other decent riddims at 125-40:

war trumpet (sounds very grime actually)
dark again/ darker shadow/ shaddowz
gang war (bit older but classic)
weed seed (rootsy)
day break
intercept
shoot out
godfather

ive heard a few mixes combining funky with dancehall but it doesnt always work cos of the four-to-the-floor house beat. yours does!

wise

bare BARE BONES
yeah the dancehall threads are a bit quiet.

Thanks for the riddims list i've got Godfather but not any of the others
