oh yes I'm aware, it was all SCENIUS...no lone visionaries here...but nonetheless...

I had to cut the options down cos you can only have 15...I tried to focus on producers or crews that 1) really created their own distinct sound/oeuvre & 2) had the greatest "impact"(a nebulous judgement surely)..anyway the point isn't even who gets the most votes, just to spark some fun discussion...

some names that got left out;

Aphrodite (some early classics but frankly IMO most of his post-'95 or so output is trash)
Bay B Kane
Bizzy B (really wanted to include him but Remarc kinda makes it redundant)
Congo Natty (a lot of good stuff but a really spotty discography & nothing good for about a decade now...)
Doc Scott (great, certainly, but very few releases)
Graham Mew (The Invisible Man/Doctor G/etc - a personal favorite but I dunno if anyone else would vote for him...)
Hyper On-E (not enough releases really for "auterism")
Intense/Babylon Timewarp
Krome & Time
Noise Factory (Terry Tee/Family of Intelligence)
Nookie
Orca
Pascal & Sponge
Plug
Soundmurderer & SK-1 (certainly the best of the newer junglists by a country mile...)
Source Direct (as with Bizzy B, Photek kinda makes them redundant...)
Tango
any of the more jungle-y breakcore (mainly thinking of Ambush here)

*EDIT* (for ones i forgot) - Shy FX/T Power (tho not together), 2 Bad Mice/Kaotic Chemistry (tho included under Goldie/Playford I guess), Shut Up & Dance (for the Redlight stuff), Legend Records cru (Q Project/Spinback/Gwange), the whole De Underground Records cru (the Aymer brothers/Uncle 22/Lennie De Ice), DILLINJA (christ I can't believe I forgot him...), B Jam/Rude & Deadly etc., Marvellous Cain, Paradox/Mixrace, D'Cruze (courtesy of Droid), Skeleton Recordings Krew (good call rivet), Dom & Roland, Dexxtrous...

Nice thread idea. If you're considering people like Remarc and DJ Hype from an auteur perspective, then surely Shy FX also deserves a mention/inclusion?
Honestly though, I can't decide yet...

oh & I voted for 4-Hero just tbc...which would not have been the cause up until quite recently...but even tho I'm not a fan of their later work that '92-94 stretch is just perfection; "Journey From the Light", the whole Tom & Jerry catalog, the Internal Affairs 12" with Goldie, Manix's nutty piano anthems, plus all the other great stuff they released on Reinforced...

christ on a bicycle- that's hard to choose. guess it has to be 4 hero for me cos of Manix and T&J as well but i feel like a bad man not choosing omni, gurley, gerald.

wot no 2 bad mice? :D

and shut up & dance? (actually they're not junglist at all so ignore that one)

Well I voted for Photek, as he would be my favourite jungle auteur as an auteur, if that makes sense (with 4 Hero pretty darn close behind though). But Hype, Remarc, DJ SS would all have certain tunes that I probably prefer to his.

Although I've not actually heard a great deal of their work yet, Danny Breaks and Dillinja would be another couple of auteur-like figures that seem to get a lot of respect. Though perhaps with DB too much of his stuff is strictly d 'n' b rather than jungle for consideration? Not sure about this.

much as i love remarc, you are totally wrong there. what does remarc have to match the following:

they aren't even really in the same category of jungle - sure, they both chop the breaks, but thats a genre property, not a genre in itself (well things might be viewed differently now since that style of production is now marginal in contemporary jungle). bizzy b excelled at darkcore, and still produces that style to this day. remarcs not really on the darkcore tip.

no way would i have left him out, utter insanity! ;)

no Danny Breaks is another one, especially as he had such a definable sound, a little bit like early Hype with all the scratching/hip hop influences...also that jungle/D line I dunno...I guess the difference for me is when producers stopped chopping up breaks & went over to the 2-step en masse...but so much stuff from like late '95 thru 97 could go either way (for example even some of No U-Turn's classic techstep is rather junglistic, also much of the Hype/Zinc/Pascal/etc. scene is right on the fence)...anyway this isn't just sonic but also cultural I guess...so in that sense Danny Breaks would very much be included...

& man you're missing out on Dillinja, seriously; "The Angels Fell" is top 10 all time surely, all the Deadly Vinyl & Philly Blunts stuff is absolutely blinding as well...unfortunately post-'96 or so he fell off hard, perhaps worst of any of the big jungle names...

dillinja's got good late 90's tunes... e.g. accurist, hard noize, fluid. before his pumped-up sound got out of hand.

Its so hard to pick from that list. I went for 4 Hero simply because of the sheer number of mindbending tracks they've produced, but just about any of that selection falls into artists I'm passionate about.

no it's true that Bizzy B should have been included...don't get wrong I seriously rate him...what can I there's a limit of 15 options in a poll...& by similar I was just thinking in terms of absolute ruffness/Amen riiiiiiiinseouts, which Bizzy B & Remarc both embody to me...

you're wrong that Remarc never did darkcore tho man...I mean come on now...this tune practically defines darkcore...

tho OK tbf darkside Remarc is really just those EPs on Dollar Records...

Honestly though, theres no way I could choose just one of these producers... :)

but surely there's no one better educated on the issue...come on Droid suck it up & pick one...can't be passing the buck on to us junglist dilettantes:D...

no this is well true...it was darn near impossible to cut it down to just 15 choices in the first place...I reckon it's just another reminder of how fantastic jungle was in its halcyon days...the incredible depth of quality producers...

It's cool, my lack of Dillinja knowledge is purely due to not getting round to it yet rather than any deliberative avoiding of him. Will make it a priority now though. :D
Been applying my usual Youtube bluffers method to mr Breaks, reckon he deserves an all-time junglist hero award for the following alone:

FUCK. YES.

OK, neck on block time now. Is Alex Reece so unspeakable now? Pulp Fiction is one of the greatest jungle tunes ever, but seems to be disregarded these days as some coffee table ambient junglist bollox. I saw Mickey Finn and Ray Keith drop that in my junior junglist days in Norwich and it was a massive tune across the scene. The whole drumnbass/ jungle delineation hadn't really happened by then (or at least it hadn't in the provinces), so as far as I was aware it was jungle. And so was Basic Principles, which was also wicked.

I would go further and say he made about a dozen really great tracks, including his remixes of other people. He also made about three dozen stinkers, but, hey...

I've just got back from holiday where I read Energy Flash (surely the Dissensus entry level text), and felt Reece got a hard deal.

I dunno about "unspeakable" but yeah man I wouldn't put him in the same league with 4 Hero/Omni Trio/Photek or for that matter even with Dillinja/Andy C/etc...tbf both of the 12"s on Metalheadz are quite respectable...but other than that yuck...he pretty much deserves the slating I reckon...have to agree with SR here...I can't remember if it's Energy Flash or one of the Wire articles but there's this bit about Alex Reece saying he doesn't really listen to jungle but he couldn't live without his house (meaning like early 90s Sasha prog house) records...sums it pretty well to my mind...

hey tho it's all a matter of opinion innit...

& let's leave "ambient jungle" out of it man;:) - that's an honorable term; "Aquarius", "Angel", Omni Trio & so on...
