There was a pigeon that would hang around with his little crew by my old work that had a piece of chewing gum stuck to his head for about 3 months, might still sport it now.

i used to see escaped pet birds, budgies and stuff, all the time but thats not a pet bird. if you saw that in london i'd love to know the explanation.

pigeons come in a lot of colour schemes around here, but don't migrate as far as i know

the swallows should be on their way by now tho

The name of the file you linked to in your original post is "kereru", which is the NZ Maori name for the native pigeon, and it's hosted on the Landcare New Zealand website. As Luka says, they're quite pretty. The dark bits are sea green, not black.

I like the fact they look like they're wearing singlets.

my best bird sighting was in Lake Elsinore (a shitty desert town outside San Diego), CA... taking a shortcut across a parking lot, i walked thru the drive thru teller window of an recently abandoned bank, and was face to face with a huge owl... like 5 feet away perched slightly above head level... it scared the hell out of me...
