[GLA] Upcoming Nights and Other Events, Rolling Thread

So we appear to be blessed with a surfeit of top events in Glasgow at the mo.
First up, DMZ pay a visit:

And then the week after, Mungo's Hi-Fi with a night of dub business:

I am going to be at the DMZ night come hell or high water, and if at all possible will also be coming along to Mungo's. Art School will be sick of the sight of me by the end of the fortnight :D. Attempting to rope as many of my friends into coming with me as possible, 'cause really, more people need to know about the great British music that exists out there. Will any other Dissensians be in attendance? 4linehaiku? Sodiumnightlife? Or any other Weegie/Central Belt folks that I don't know about yet? Give me a shout if you are.
Good times are in the offing!

Bumpity bump.
Got myself a ticket for tonight to be on the safe side. Any last callers for a won't-be-awkward-at-all-honest-guv meet-up?

Okay, mods do what you will if you feel I am self-bumping this too much, but I'm very tempted to turn this into a rolling thread for Glasgow events, as we've got something of a glut of top nights forthcoming:

1st May - Gtown Desi and Crazy Couzins, Elevator@Byblos
8th May - Hudson Mohawke and Kode 9, Stereo
15h May - Oneman and Plastician, Art School

Review of DMZ should be up on my blog in the next couple of hours. In the meantime there are some great photos of the night - not taken by me - here:

Pretty excited for Mungo's on Friday. :D

EDIT: DMZ review is finally up, here:

Big up Cobretti for the contribution. You gonna be reaching for Mungo's tomorrow night?
Yeah, Gaslamp Killer/Mike Slott had caught my eye, though tbh neither of them are quite my favourites within that general style. But it would be nice just for the excuse to take a trip to the Sub, not been in there since time immemorial.
LuckyMe/Ballers Social seem to be pretty much taking over Glasgow at the moment though:

Between them and the Numbers crew, the city's going to be going wonk-tastic. :)

Na, going to Bangface this weekend, will catch them there no doubt :D

It's getting to that time of week again - will anyone else be making it to Stereo tomorrow for 9 and HudMo?
4lh, I saw on the dubstep thread that you have those silly weekend exams getting in the way. Lame. Hopefully there'll be another chance for a similar night.

4linehaiku

Repetitive
Yeah it was far from ideal timing.
Will be through Glasgow at some point soon though don't you worry.
Jackmaster & Bok Bok about 12th June at the latest. Unless that's just a feverish dream I had. I think it's happening.

Yeah I seem to remember spotting a poster for a night along these lines while I was out on Friday.

Will I do my report-back post now? Working on a rambling blog post on the night as per DMZ, but may as well throw out some random thoughts just now:

- First up, have to big up my friends G & H for coming along. Know it's not exactly their usual kind of music, so was really pleased not only that they turned up but also that they ended up getting into it.
- My fears about the wonky beats being undanceable were unfounded, although even in HudMo's set they didn't dominate proceedings.
- Kode 9's mixing was tight throughout his set, the days that I used to see reflected in some of the critical reports on here seem to have well & truly passed.
- He started off with loads of funky, went to down a treat. Move Down Low got dropped and got a top reaction - the Grievous Angel is starting to inflitrate Glasgow!
- Once again, Glasgow crowds really seem to love anything by the Bug. Both guys worked through a wide range of styles, tempos and beat templates, but in way that seemed natural. Surprising (to me) ammount of jungle from Kode - first time hearing it out ever, DJ Hype - Rinse Out totally killed it, queue loads of epileptic shadow-boxing on the floor.
- Great crowd throughout, from about halfway through Hud Mo the dancefloor was totally packed. Think I saw feminine pressure in action on the night, including in the form of stage invasions! Will try and explain more on the blog, Nomos would have loved it though. :)

Working on a rambling blog post on the night as per DMZ,

This has become part of a longer state-of-play article I'm trying to write at the mo, spending ages faffing about with it as per usual.
But the real reason for bumping this is that it's Night Slugs at Pivo Pivo (Waterloo St) TONIGHT!! :D  :D. Bok Bok, L-Vis 1990 and Egyptrixx. I am trying my best to be there, can't be at all certain yet, but anyone else in the area should definately head along, will be well worth it I reckon.

time, space, transmat
I think Kode9 was excellent the other week but I still reckon the Glasgow crowd doesnt quite get the Funky yet.

I thouroughly enjoyed it tho.

Well yeah, you could tell that people were still figuring out the best way to dance to it but it seemed to go down well, plenty of folk on the dancefloor.
Just listening to your mix now btw, good stuff. :)

I made it down and am just about recovering now. Was a weird night in some ways, very quiet in terms of numbers, but everyone that was there including myself was totally getting into it, and they played a bunch of great stuff, including a lot of fast banging 4 X 4 stuff that I had no knowledge of at all but that sounded good in context. I am also now fully converted to the greatness of Nextaconda :D . 4linehaiku is a thoroughly nice chap, was good to meet up.
