It's a free one!
The Art School, Fortified and Itch! presents
Horsepower, Joe Nice and Julio Bashmore

As you may well know, the art school which has been Fortified's home for almost 4 years now closes for refurbishment this summer, so 20th of May 2011 will be touched with much emotion, as it is the date of our final session in the place.
...So, as we count down to that fateful date, we have a few very special parties planned to ensure we see the building out with a bang. The pedigree of our two guests on our first dance of the year could not be purer, as we welcome back Horsepower Production's Benny Ill, and Joe Nice, all the way from Baltimore, USA.

Horsepower, for those of you who dont know, are the group widely acnowledged with taking the swing of garage, the ruffneck vibes of jungle, dub and reggae, the experimantal sonics of techno, sprinkling it liberally with film samples and dialougue, and thus inventing dubstep. Before most of you had heard of Skream or Burial HP already had two classic albums under their sleeve, which are still firm Eliminator's favourites to this day. After a lenghty hiatus they are back with a new full length, "Quest for the Sonic Bounty" which as far as we are concerned is a master piece for both the home and the club. Benny was the first guest we had at the arty back in 07 and it is both a privelidge and an honour to have him return to our tables.

As it is with Joe Nice. Universally recognized as the ambassador of the dubstep sound in North America and has been instrumental in the growth and success of dubstep for nearly a decade. In other words, he's been playing dubstep before it was called dubstep. For our money Joe is the worlds best DJ playing bass music full stop.
His passion, charisma, enthusiastic stage presence and technical ability are equally matched by his selection skills. Lost classics, scene anthems, hot new artists and the freshest upfront dubs (and believe us, Joe has these in abundance from all the main players) all get dropped masterfully. He is the first American-based DJ to play on London pirate radio, Rinse FM, the legendary DMZ bi-monthly bash and FWD>> @ Plastic People. A member of GourmetBeats, resident & co-founder of the most successful dubstep party in North America, DubWar (New York City) and selected as one of URB's NEXT 100, JoeNice is continually taking dubstep to the next level and beyond.

Add Electric Eliminators warming up, and B.A.S.S. supplying the subs and you have a night out that perfectly schools you in dubsteps history, whilst slapping you round the chops with its possibilities for the future. Business as usual in other words......Exept this one wont cost you a penny as its FREE ENTRY all night. And you also have access to ITCH down stairs which features special guest Julio Bashmore, someone we respect so much that we almost got him for Fortified. Any excuse not to go to this is definately a lame one.

^ Nice, Paul mentioned to me Joe Nice was coming over soon, but didn't realise we were getting Horsepower too. The next month or so is going to be mad for music stuff frankly, hope none of the nights clash.
And I'm not hating on Slab btw, the name just grabbed my attention, lol.

Edit: Using the phrase 'not hating on' as a Scot is a serious sign that you've been spending too much time on the internet...

Slabs is a great night Andy, no bullshit just good solid Techno and House with an up for it crowd. Try it out sometime.

Late on this, but you were right. Had a blast when I went down there a couple of weeks ago.
That Electric Frog thing looks big. :)

Edit: Oh yeah big up you and JP for the set at Fortified last week, was doing a lot.

Oh cheers Andy, really enjoyed that, thought we'd best play to the crowd a bit more than usual :p

Apologies about Joe Nice, he couldn't travel due to a family emergency.

J-Rocc just been added to Electric Frog, so the line up for our area is Kode9, J-Rocc, Todd Edwards, L-Vis1990 and Electric Eliminators.

^Hehe, was lots of fun, didn't strike me as crowd-pleasing in any kind of a bad way (though the lad down the front who looked like he'd taken about 5 E's seemed to enjoy himself...)
Shame about Joe yeah, hope his family are ok. Benny Ill played some great stuff.
Bloody hell though, Todd Edwards, that's almost worth the day ticket price on its own to me, will def have to make it along.

For our penultimate Fortified at the Arty, we welcome back one of our best friends and favourite spinners, OG Croydon boy Hijak.
An original member of Drum & Bass mob Internatty Crew back in the day, one of the first artists to release on Deep Medi and older brother and musical mentor to Skream, Hijak has dubstep credentials coming out his ears. But that is not why we have chosen him to close one of our final art school parties....
As any one who has witnessed any time he has played for us will testify, Hijak rocks the party in a style like no other.
Joining him will be two young tykes who have really established themselves on the Glasgow underground scene of late, with their late night show on Sub City, and their Recently launched club night Rumors, its Indra and Skandy.
As its the same weekend as the electric frog street carnival, we have arranged a discount to anyone who has a weekend or Sunday ticket for this event, and all you lucky Art School students go free.

Here's some mixes from Fortified resident The Popester to keep you ticking over til the 22nd, from classic mixes to newly forged material. Keep yer eyes peeled for some guest mixes on this page from the Eliminators crew, soon to come:

Drunkenly shaking hands with and saying hi to Ben UFO on Friday night was a lot of fun I must say.
The music wasn't too bad either...
