Good luck anyone who's struggling with this. Had a scarey period with valium a few years ago, it's difficult but it can be dealt with...

"Yeah, may do. I'm going into work tomorrow, explain a few things. Seeing my mother on Saturday to, uh, explain a few things. Go to the doctor if I can. Then maybe, yes, London for a few days. See some friends. Maybe hook up, Rich. Could finally get those DVDs back to you!"
Well, if you're gonna then lets meet up. I can probably find some other stuff you might be interested in as well as long as I haven't already given it to other people.

Go to the doctor if I can.

Probably too late to post this, but if you can, make sure you do see a doctor. They can help you at this point much more than anyone else.

The longer you go without drinking the easier it will get...just takes time...and I know easier said than done, right?

^^ I was gonna say go to the Doctor, but it sounds so trite, but it's really a good kick off point. If you need any pointers pvt me, and good luck m8

good luck craner... i don't really know what you must be going through but can imagine. maybe getting into food or sex or squash (the sport) or something else to take mind away from the sauce is a good temporory idea?

i'm the opposite with booze right now. 3 beers and i'm well tipsy. 4 and i'm pretty drunk. seriously pathetic. used to down 6 cocktails, 3 shots, and then drink beers all night. those days are long gone... the bright side is i save a lot of money. and i hardly ever want even wine outside of party situations.

i find it deeply heartening reading everyone over the last few pages, swapping tales and pulling together.

Dissensians: you are all lovely and i love everyone :)

god ollie! absolutely devastated to hear you're having such a bad time!

:(

Make a project, something to focus on, something worth battling for but boredom and fear are the mind killers.

very good advice stuart.

the thing about boredom is that once you relax and you let yourself slowly sink into it - and resist all those things that you use as a short-cut out of it you find, in quite a short space of time that it takes on its own texture. subtle simple pleasures emerge from the gloom. a warm day. a book. a hot bath. it doesn't seem convincing i know :p

hang in there you're a special guy.

Re: the AA comments. A mate of mine went into AA last year and it absolutely turned his life around. Right thing for him at exactly the right time. Might not be for you, but it can be very very positive. All the best dude.

Yeah, Danny, I hope it didn't sound like I was discouraging AA attendance upthread. NA helped me a lot while I (very, very slowly) learned how to enjoy things in the process Woebot aptly describes.

I was talking from a somewhat jaded, but mostly dry and clinical perspective that isn't all that helpful in early recovery, when you just need to be around people who know what you're dealing with and can listen and relate to you.

ive given up the interent... instead i read 4 books this week instead of using dissensus and facebook. i also had sme nice baths using bath salts and cooked some meals which were more elaborate than they would otherwise have been. i reccomend it.... im going to use it once a week to pay my rent and make sure you lot are behaving yourselves and to keep up with my firends in other countries.

^ I really need to do this. I can't control my internet use at all, I keep looking for reasons to stay on it for some reason.

This is my favourite thread I've started on Dissensus - addiction is still one of the topics (the topic?) I find most interesting psychologically, as I struggle with behavioural addictions in a lot of ways. Maybe smaller such addictions find space to cememnt themselves in an atmopshere of stasis, and therefore major change acts as a panacea?

yeah, same here. like i know i need to go to bed or have something to do but, no, must check the forums, then the news, then maybe some rss feeds... 3 hours later... :/

i've actually requested for my isp to close the shit down at the end of the month. i'll just use my phone's net for the basic necessities. really seems like the only way to do it. i've tried several times editing the windows hosts file so that i can't connect to certain sites that i find myself wasting time on but eventually i cave in and think 'ahhh just a little won't hurt'

I'm barely using the internet at all at weekends now, it's great.

Um, the less said about weekdays the better.
