I saw a wookpecker in London Fields yesterday, not exactly sure what type it was, a black one with white patches on the back and red on the top of the head. Fairly small.

Went up to Malham on saturday and saw the peregrine falcons.

Plenty of twitchers hanging around (congretating at the bottom of the cove).

Awesome to see one again (peregrines, obv)- truly amazing in flight; jet fighters of the bird world, dive bombing crows etc

"probably greater spotted..."
I can't remember now unfortunately. I think if I'd seen both pictures at the time I would have been able to tell 'cause I saw it quite clearly but this far along I can't be sure.

I miss the bird who hung around my garden for a summer and whose song matched EXACTLY the melodic refrain of Coltrane's A Love Supreme.

Anyone know what that would have been?

Blackbirds are good singers once they get going...think Coltrane might have been playing in their key.

Flock of redwings in the garden this morning - a first.
