Resurrecting this Thread

Hey guys, I thought I'll resurrect this thread, after all I love Disco.

I plan to post a rundown on my fav disco tracks year by year, in chronological order.
First a few explanations: I am leaning towards "electronic" disco, because that's the stuff I like most. Lot's of disco in the early years, from let's say 1974 (that was the year "disco" as a genre really took off) onwards was traditional in the sense it was done with "classic" instruments, no synths, no drum machines. Those early disco tracks were well.craftred, well-executed music, many times soul-music for the 1970s. Greatmusic without a doubt, but not so much interesting for me, since I prefer "tracks" opposed to "songs" and weird sounding synths, sound gimmicks and drum machines always solde me, and still do.

I'll just post records respectively tracks which are on youtube, so you'll have the sound accompanying to the lists.

So, we'll start with 1975:

Andrea True Connection "More more More"

A great song and also a sales chart hit in early 1976. The "plopping" sounds are the icing of the cake. Plus, also sampled here and there.

Barrabas "Family Size"

Barrabas were a disco outfit of the mid70s. This is an example of a more "funky" tune, slower, with a great groove (at least IMO)

another one from Barrabas:

"Mellow blow"

I especially enjoy this bc of the stomping groove, and the great hookline.

More 1975 Disco

Hamilton Bohannon "Disco Stomp"

I love this bc of its somehwhat minimalistic but mesmerising groovy stomp (indeed), coupled with the odd sounding male singing at the end of the track.

Ok, I'll admit, the next one might a bit cheesy. Nevertheless I like it.
Henry Mancini, one of the best composers of film scores, also did some disco influenced stuff in the 1970s. Not suprising, since conventional disco and music for films often worked with orchestras and disco WAS the "gimmicky" sound of the 1970s.

So here is
Henry Mancini "African Symphony" which I like bc of it's "cheesy opulence".

Herbie Mann "Waterbed" - another more minimal funkster IMO, I like it especially bc of its sexual connotations, I guess....

More from 1975

Here is a good example of another sales-charts hit, produced in Munich.
Typical for German Disco Stomp:

Silver Convention "Fly Robin Fly"

another slower funk-stomper. That one got me via it's gimmicky intro and general groove:

Sweet Sensation "Mr. Cool"

The next one is included bc of general greatness:

The Fatback Band "Spanish Hustle"

My last pick from 1975.

First, this one is undoubtedly about all of the Dissensus-members:

The miracles "Love Machine"

Next will be my 1976 choices. I hope you enjoyed my rundown so far.

In the mid- and late 1970s, a lot of popular chart hits got the "Disco treatment" just like later on they got remixed. It also happened to Tubular Bells. Here is the result, which I happen to like quite a lot (also from 1976):

This one's from Canada, released in 1977, it's gimmicky but great as well: Computer - "No One Loves A Computer" :)
