all the films mentioned are very old. Tarkovsky is the most modern I recognized. maybe he wrote about him elsewhere though

if you're at an extreme of needing sleep but being unable to sleep then you will start to experience waking dreams. you'll lie down in bed and get ready to sleep, but you're unable because these visions are present at the lintel, in what used to be called a liminal state

My mate who went to Tisch had to read the Deleuze stuff on cinema for his course, don't think he was very impressed or has thought about it since. I can't remember how we got onto it, but his response was along the lines of "Yeah, we had to read all that shit," before changing the subject.

i have experienced incredible states on the border line in the sand between being awake and being asleep. they have convinced me that there is an unconscious mind and it is more powerful and creative than my regular self. i have to imbibe life-threatening amounts of alcohol to access this

yeah. hallucinations more richly detailed than any film i've ever seen, any record i've ever listened to. i'd recommend it if it weren't for the side effect of feeling like you're about to drop dead any second lasting a couple of days
