It's hard to top Cornell Campbell's "Dance In A Greenwich Town" - essentially a song about getting to a great party, find all your mates there (who happen to be King Tubby and a bunch of friendly dreads) and hanging out and smoking spliff.

It also features, in the deejay version, the nonsensical but infectiously, overflowingly joyous lyric "there was dreadlocks, dread, natty congo dread and natty roots everywhere"

What's the song that establishes the greatest distance between instrumental joy and lyrical despair (without it being done solely for superficially ironic effect)?

The Jackson 5 has got to be a good shout in this thread. And obviously that ecstatic, streamlined feeling carried through to Michael Jackson solo tunes like "Rock With You" and "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" (they do what they say on the tin)

Steve Harley and The Cockney Rebel's "Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile)", Marvin Gaye's "Here My Dear"... lots of choices...

Jackson Five made me think of 'It's Your Thing'. I think The Isleys' original is pretty ruling on the joy front.

The Meters' 'Just Kissed My Baby' is one of those tunes that always makes me smile. Holy shit. Maybe should put that in the favourite song of all time thread too...

Am I the only one who is tired of every single thread on dissensus degenerating to a lazy youtube dump?

Eventually, even though I like a lot of the stuff presentet here, it's such a predictable display of tasteful and 'nuumologically correct stuff. If you want music that is...

bursting with optimism and joy at the sheer beauty of life
...then why not go all the way. Certainly not a "cool" record, but absolutely wonderful nevertheless.
