Coffee

Cream is better than milk but milk is better than nothing. Black coffee is just too unsubtle, a slight tempering of the taste lifts it from the reasonable to the sublime. I like it with cream/milk so much that I pretty much won´t drink it without - almost is nowhere.
For me the best coffee in London is Jason´s stall on Broadway Market followed by the Violet shop on Wilton Way with an honourable mention to the place on Dalston Lane which does a very tasty filter for only a quid - drink in or take away. That place in Covent Garden is pretty good as well.

Darned cockwombles.
i've heard them referred to as 'stovetop' coffee makers, but i'm unsure what the exact terminology is.

i never thought these machines could also make proper americano or perhaps even a a latte, marvellous!

Not tried those uses - must give it a go. They really make wonderful coffee.

@Tea - perhaps, must be a french name too though?

@Slothrop - you win the inaugural daily award for shittiest yet funniest comment on Dissensus.

in the states, some coffee drinkers (me) use half-and-half, which as the name implies is half milk/half cream. i like it because it makes the coffee richer compared to using plain milk, but it's not as artery-hardening as straight cream.

most brits i know over here say they've never heard of it and think it's vile, i quite like it.

I only take my coffee black so maybe these might suit everyone's taste - LRB cafe in Bury Place by the BM is really very good for coffee (and tea) - service is variable to say the least.

Also both Verde and the Coffee House next to it in Spitalfields are good.

record shopping at Sounds of the Universe + coffee break at Flat White round the corner is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Quite a new coffee drinker (mostly because my girlfriend is Italian tbh) but use a moka (sp?) for making my own (had it about three months and have finally broken it in). Dont really drink long coffees but i do like a machiatto in Italy (never had a good one in England really). In fact some of the best coffees ive had have been at Italian service stations!

There is a cypriot guy in Camden who roasts all his own coffee. the shop is amazing; basically just loads of bags of coffee and an old roaster and grinders etc. Smells incredible too, would really really recommend it to anyone North London way.

I got into coffee through a French girlfriend. The Europeans are wily like that.

Will try that place in Camden. never ever go to Camden but will make a detour sometime, cos that sounds ace

Probably the best coffee I've ever had was in Istanbul airport. So 'meh' to Italian/French coffee.

Best I've had in London was either at the Colombian restaurant in Clapham, or at Pomodoro Rosso (how much better if named Profondo Rosso?) in Covent Garden. but turkish/middle eastern coffee kills it, have no argument with that.

ethiopians have thieir coffee a bit like the turks. i like that style. flat white is on brwick st i think. its ownd and run by either kiwis or aussies. the flat white is a latte without the inch of froth. its a nz.aus term. apart from any thing else it saves them from having to order some poncey foreign sounding thing. nude espresso off brick lane is the same. the baristas on this side of the world are very good. the milk has to be perfect. in the uk thy are barbarians.
