bis predicted the great cultural entropy!! http://dan-hancox.blogspot.com/2009/06/great-cultural-entropy-as-prophesised.html don't knock em. ahem. no, okay, do. i still have the secret vampires 7" somewhere.. seriously so much ltd edition 7" coloured vinyl knocking about in my parents attic *cough cough*

for me: urusei yatsura, low, blood brothers, the thermals, saturday looks good to me. also the shins, actually. it either has to be scuzzy and lo-fi as fuck or just supremely twee but very very melodically twee (rather than belle and sebastian ickyness).

can anyone do a pithy summary of why virtually all guitar music is now pointless? some people still need it explaining, shockingly.

Actually this has reminded me - last proper indie gig I was at was probably Belle and Sebastian at the Union Chapel around '98.

Still like them as well. Steven Wells will be turning in his grave...

some great stuff out there still

urusei yatsura, god i remember them, awful.

call off your attack dogs, sir
oh fair enough. acquired taste maybe lol.

i once saw them the ginger one jump into the crowd and start repeatedly punching this drunk arsehole who'd been fucking with his mic stand during the song.

the bad carried on playing, the bouncers let him punch the guy a few times before dragging him out. fergus (i think) returned to the stage unruffled, strapped his guitar back on, and calmly finished the song. that was pretty cool.

@BareBones i'm sure there is still some great stuff out there, i hear some of it.. increasingly rare though isn't it? or is that just my changing tastes?

yeah i have a lot of b&s cds, probably everything they did. i haven't been able to listen to them without wincing for a long time now though.. just too depressing. i used to LOVE 'this is just a modern rock song'.

Argghhh... my first proper gf was well into Belle and Sebastian and all things "twee". It was quite nice to go on picnics with her and her mates, though.

yeah I can see how that would be grating - it was just comedown music for us I think so a slightly different scenario.

10 toes!!!

you're a dream lover
even now there's some great music that fits into what would be termed "indie". seems a shame to renounce anything so broad! :)

awesome band

Are the Pastels the zenith of tweeness?

Thye used to inspire that same puppyish devotion as B&S, but with only half the talent to my ears. You'd get these fans in their mid-20s huddling together like kids in a treehouse. It was fucking weird.

never been a big fan of indie music or guitar stuff in general, i like a few things or have gone thru phases of liking a few things but nothing really sticks. Belle and Sebastian are just dreadful, really wind me u the wrong way. i'm nt a twee kinda guy.
