I do think it's the most fun thing around at the moment but there's something gross just about doing an album it pulls you into the mire

GANGSTA RAPPED!

nme.com is on hand to check out the star's spoken-word schtick - and it doesn't go down well in the Big Apple...
ByNME
7th July 2000

Tricky stormed off the stage at NEW YORK‘s CENTRAL PARK SUMMERSTAGE last night (July 6) after the audience greeted his bizarre, almost farcical performance, with a chorus of boos and a large proportion of walkouts, nme.com can reveal.
The star was clearly annoyed that the crowd gave a less than favourable greeting to sections of his spoken-word project Product Of The Environment, which was released last year on his own Durban Poison label. The temperemental trip-hopper stomped off after only 15 minutes.
The Bristol-born star, joined onstage by former gangster ‘Dodgy’ Dave Courtney, had begun by explaining that the material was a collection of “stories from the underground” which contained no singing, just recollections by England‘s most notorious criminals – “Real gangsta rap,” he added.
Following an anti-police rant by Courtney, Tricky called for a human beatbox from the crowd, and embarked rap which closed the very brief set. They both left the stage, but Tricky returned following disgruntled noises from fans, explaining, “I didn’t know we were supposed to do an hour, so I’m going to bore you a little longer.”
He invited another audience member onstage for an improvised number, but the audience reaction led him to abandon it a couple of minutes in and walk off.
DJs State of Bengal and Luc Sante had opened the free show.
Tricky, now a New York resident, recently signed a new record deal with Californian proto-punk label Epitaph.
Tricky’s UK spokesperson said: “The material played is in no way connected with the album Tricky is currently recording for Epitaph.”

Digga D documentary on BCC3 is required watching for people who think these young drill guys "love jail", "aren't serious" and all the rest of it. Insidious police harassment to the nth degree.

Youngs Teflon's Call of Duty 3 is out anybody checked it?

I thought it was good but the first one is still the best. It's a shame he's moved away from the occasional max b homage & I do miss the old carns hill countdown

But yeah some bangers he doesn't really make bad music does he

saw this recently, was moving tbh. the bit where he told an interviewer at wireless he didn't want to answer a question on BLM just after he'd been questioned by probation for going to a protest was especially sad

I saw this the other day. I like it when he gets asked what he wants to do most and he's like "get on a plane. Jamaica."

His manager seems like a sound lad.

I was listening to this thinking as good as these axl beats are I'd like to hear Abra over something lively like garage. The downside of the drill sound is its relentlessly minor key mournful funereal vibes.

The Ideas Train
Best UK drill tunes of 2020 according to me (no particular order, probably forgotten some tracks):

Feel like this is a slightly "anti-Barty" selection, but maybe that's just me. Like, I don't feel they really match this description:

Good picks.

Considered as a system and an economy and so on the real failure of drill is how it wastes it's producers. Big waste, big inefficiency.

If you made a beat as a grime producer it would be everywhere all day every day. Make a drill type beat and probably no one will ever hear it ever.

This is probably the main drag on innovation mutation evolution.

All the things he released this year were lively like garage as it goes, until the album which I'm not going to listen to anyway
