    James Brown, RIP

nomadologist> completism is a rock and roll hang up I don't know that completism is, so I'm not sure if I was accusing James Brown of it or not. But the comment about the sheer productivity of JB and his variability (or willingness to experiment to put it another way) was not a diss...

    James Brown, RIP

petergunn> 1. The point about the high volumes of output is that it's not just James Brown - it's most of the really influential musicians of the past 50 years have been powerhouses of the sublime and the ridiculous - The Beatles, Dylan, Prince. And you could make the same point from a scenius...

    James Brown, RIP

One of the oddest experiences of my life was seeing James Brown play the Chichester Real Ale & Jazz Festival in 2000. I suspect he would have played my nan's living room for a few quid (he think he had bills to pay). This was a seminal moment for my mates as we had been JB fans since puberty...

    Where is Kodwo?

Derrick May does indeed seem to be a bit of a tosser in this - trying way too hard to be cool. But according to Reynolds, he hates acid house, jungle, etc. Where as Gerald comes across as gentle, vulnerable even. The thing about that doco is that it's all about music... but there's not that...

    Where is Kodwo?

Not really a proper sighting but I went to this last night which had a showing of "The Last Angel of History" - which contains several interviews with Mr Eshun and is pretty much an easy-access version of "More Brilliant Than Sun". No mention of Kraftwerk getting buggered by their own bicycles...

The last gig you went to...

Modular Xmas Bash So The F***ing Klaxons headlined. With New Young Pony Club and Van She in support. The Avalanches did an ADD DJ set. The last 90 mins was bangin' techno. I was definitely in the oldest 90% of those present. So yeah... quite good....

Bass: Infrasound, Dread & The Uncanny

matt b > The Purcell Room experiment took place in a concert hall. What was interesting about it was the difference in repsonses between the sessions with infrasound and the sessions with just "placebo" music.

Bass: Infrasound, Dread & The Uncanny

Thanks for all this people. At present there are a several strands to my thinking: 1. Dread i. Infrasound is associated with catastrophic natural phenomena - earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tsunami. ii. Humans have associated these phenomena with the divine - "Acts of God". iii. On one...

Bass: Infrasound, Dread & The Uncanny

Just my personal pleasure at the moment. If one of the local music zines is interested, I might pitch it to them. Otherwise it'll end up on a blog somewhere. But it's not academic, if that's what you mean.

Bass: Infrasound, Dread & The Uncanny

Posting this hear even if should may be in "Music". I have a lifelong obsession with bass. I played bass intruments (tuba & bass guitar) and whilst love many genres of music, I am fascinated by those with a major bass component - reggae, jungle and now dubstep. So I want to write an article...
