"R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

Might be of interest to some of you, but I'm throwing another SO BONES at Catch in London next Thursday. Alex Macpherson and Girl Unit are gonna be djing alongside me again, and Ikonika is guest DJ for the night. Should be good. The last one which saw Deadboy debut his DJ TEARJERKER alias was...

    "R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

I got some love for J-Lo too and I thought this was pretty good. One of the better recent Neptunes productions. I liked the return of the shimmering Amazon sound they used for "I'm a Slave 4 U." <param name="allowFullScreen"...

    "R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

i am actually. I'm coming in from NYC in July to throw a night with Girl Unit and hopefully a special guest I can't say too much about yet. Should be good. The last one with Deadboy was insane! Fancy was aeons ago...still as good as it was back when it was released though. Alright here's some...

    Juke

Every time I check in on this thread I can't contain my excitement...seriously this stuff has been some of my favorite music for a long time. I live in an apt in NYC with a bunch of Chicago natives who blast this stuff out 24/7...one of the guys is actually writing a college essay at the moment...

Margins Music Redux: Grievous Angel remixes Blackdown & Dusk album

Thanks! That's real nice of you to say. It's crazy cause lately a lot of people have been coming out of the woodwork to tell me how much they appreciated SO BONES, but I never had any clue that many people read it to be honest. Considering all that I'm gonna try real hard to get back on it for...

Margins Music Redux: Grievous Angel remixes Blackdown & Dusk album

I can't believe this post only got one reply. Without meaning to kiss ass, I'd go as far as to say this record is a modern classic. I live in NYC these days, but whenever I listen to this record it always makes me miss London and it's weird, weird streets. I can't fault it.

    Hip Hop 09?

Probably my second favourite track off of that album, after 9 x Outta 10. So unexpected as well...felt like that stuff just came from out of nowhere. I kinda feel like lately hip hop has been in a bit of a rut, and that R&B, even though both scenes are pretty much intrinsically linked with one...

    Hyphy vs Jerkin

I'm liking a lot of the jerk stuff very much at the moment. The D.I.Y rawness is definitely an appeal. I'm not convinced it's going to break out though, just because I still don't think there'e been one big song to emerge out of the scene that really screams "crossover", although a few canny...

Sorry dude! I missed your message before. I need to sort that out though, but yeah, it is still working on XXJFG. Hope you liked it. My Boo!!!! God, I forgot about that one! Totally amazing track though. My friend who grew up in Florida, where it was a massive regional hit, said they played...

    "R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

Haha! Weird...I was just in the middle of writing about this for my blog when I saw your comment. Absolutely love it, but it's a total headscratcher and it's the kind of thing that will totally divide people down the middle, those who think it's total genius and those who think it's utter...

    The Screwed & Chopped thread

I still love this sound but it's progress has definitely slowed down (the irony) since people outside of the southern states started getting excited about it a few years ago. The four big stars of the scene, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Cham, and Slim Thug, have either been missing in action or...

    "R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

What grates on me most about all of this is that she wouldn't really be where she is right now if she hadn't rode in on the dubstep remix that garnered her so much attention in the first place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't dubstep as a genre owe quite alot to the scene she sees fit to...
