My neighbour's son's been doing work on her house and he likes to sing and do guitar noises and stuff while he does, but today I heard him doing "Incredible" through the wall. He was even doing the noises. He didn't have the radio on or anything either. He just kept going "Booyaka, booyaka" etc. a capella.

Brilliant record. One of my favorite jungle stories is DJ Rap breaking the cultural boycott enforced on this record by the Jungle Council.

I mean, Levy was a prick but was he any more of a prick than Goldie?

It was certainly harsh on M-Beat. But if I had Rap in my corner, I'd feel a lot better about things.

I sort of do the Hello Magazine version of Jungle as opposed to the Thirdcore Terror version or Droid's Platonic 1995 Mix version.

Truly astonished nobody has uploaded the Open University clip with the "I can't accept Drum & Bass. We need Jungle, I'm afraid" soundbite.

Funny thing is that all the mash-ups I've heard have put the soundbite over turned-to-shite late'90s d+b, as opposed to propah rinse-out junglizm.

Craners been rubbing off on you I see lol. Shit tv show, shit sample. universally challenged wankers.

Amol's inability to speak English fluently is almost compensated by the endless gifts from his bargain basement French: "Nouveau Roman: New Roman" :(

story is more complicated than that though. You have roast tape packs with it on when it first came out. It was only when it charted that it became a problem, and then 5ive o's infamous rant end of 94.

I feel like this is another case of you being the inverted snob, though. It's a decent record, but not so extraordinary. Better m-beat records: Watch it, his remix of Gun Connection, Dark Magnet, Style (both mixes) 24-7. etc, etc.

I like M-Beat. I wasn't saying it was his best record and you're right, part of my affection for 'Incredible' is how Levy ended up infuriating the future architects of Drum and Bass.

I also understood then and I understand now why they reacted the way they did: they had a couple of years experience of being ignored or derided or insulted by people who were now poised to profit from their achievement and potentially destroy it in the process.

But, then again, who elected them to speak on behalf of everybody else? As Charissa put it, "who are they to tell me I can't play 'Incredible'? I like it."

One for the youtube comments thread:
I used to work with a Polish guy who could immitate that SQUEEK flawlessly. Nothing brightened up my day more than hearing him drive past in his fork-lift truck shouting "wicked SQUEEK wicked SQUEEK"
