7" vinyl sales are the highest theyve been in years

I could be wrong but i don't think mastering and pressing 7"s is any more viable for small labels than 12"s are. More expensive, I bet. I see bigger bands diong well with the format but presumably they shift 10000+ copies?

HOUSE- breaking news, gossip, libel, lies etc,

Me too, I've never done it before, I don't know what came over me. I'm a fan of house from the mid-90s. That garage swing (Mood II Swing, Kerri Chandler, Masters dubs) sound that does sound old fashioned now but still works when it's played loud. I only said that so I could point out that the...

HOUSE- breaking news, gossip, libel, lies etc,

For more of that Detroit flavour of house, Omar S records are always worth hearing. FXHE records I think is his label. Slow BPM with an olde style sensibility.

HOUSE- breaking news, gossip, libel, lies etc,

No, not at all - I'm really happy Friday came round so quick! Whilst I agree that a lot house music comp cds are packaged with a particular manga'd-up FHM aesthetic in mind, I also think compilations of any genre suffer from all being designed the same way. Particularly hip hop - you know the...

HOUSE- breaking news, gossip, libel, lies etc,

I was in HMV in Oxford, UK the other day and there is a whole section devoted to hip hop compilations that feature that Westwood (or a variation thereof) bloke on the cover. It was quite a sight and really stood out from the other sections in there. Pure dark colours and cars. There is a also...

herbert - what do you reckon?

Live, I didn't having think a chef on stage with Plat du Jour was any good at all, it was silly. I was too far from the stage to feel any heat but I did smell some garlic. I thought the sampling of bell-type noises from the kitchen got a bit same-y... maybe I was expecting more percussion from...

    scandinavian synth-pop

Though all the stuff I've found on the internet seems really old, my friend plays with Dibidum, from Norway. He said they call it 'Broadway electric pop' or something like that. Definitely synthy, definitely pop and, obviously, Scandinavian. In my mind they must be good - my friend's not a wally.

rough trade to open UK's biggest record shop

Heaven forbid one should have to walk past skateboard gear in order to buy a record. But this sounds like excellent news. Wilfully perverse.

    Irredeemably naff music

that 6/8 groove of glam gets my goat every time. there's probably something significant in the androgeny of m bolan in pop music etc but that music (even before being stained by gary glitter being discredited) is incredibly depressing. see also: the new wave of 6/8 groove - gold frapp etc.

    Flash clubbing - Liverpool street

i chanced upon it, and it was a cringeworthy event of the highest order. zany attention-seekers with headphones on whooping it up, being gawped at by city workers waiting for their trains home. i didnt know it was a flash thing but i had a suspicion that it might be. what will they think of next?
