brennan green's record as 'infanttwo' is a fine piece of disco-trance. spacey, deep, and melancholy - without all the buzzier hi-nrg elements that something like alden tyrell has. idjut boys as well have a few excellent bits...'scorejazi' comes to mind - more dubby and trippy than trancey...

you probably know about alot of this stuff already, but: a lot of the stuff from the creme/viewlexx/bunker/clone camp is in that vein, esp. alden tyrell and bangkok impact. i definitely second/third/whatev the recommendation for basically everything lindstrom and prins thomas have done. also...

yeah, you're right dominic - the sound palette is very similar to early acid trance (like djax records circa random xs - 'give your body'), but the grooves are less rigidly metronomic...i only mentioned new beat because it was discussed earlier, and the track 'maiden' kinda taps into to that...

knarz = thomas heckmann's moniker for grungey ebm-inspired techno, right? lots of nitzer ebb covers and shouty german vocals, w/ heavy grating basslines (a bunch of this stuff has been re-released recently). the new grummich stuff definitely seems in that vein, as well as that brian aneurysm...

bladerunner is on axis classics...tho i'm not sure if it's a rerelease of earlier stuff, old unreleased material, or new stuff in that vein. definitely sounds like stuff from the early-mid 90's. it's pretty good, though. very gritty. the three ages records that he's been putting out for a while...

midwest hardcorps represent! DBN and its sublabels are at least is interesting/innovative as the Shockwave camp, imo. as far as the site goes...great idea, good interface, fairly well written, fun...lots of errors, tho, and i'm sure we all have plenty of genre-squabbles...

mark mothersbaugh turns up everywhere. graeme revell (spk) does the music for all sorts of things, too.....mostly horror and sci-fi movies, but some kids stuff too (shark boy and lava girl). don't know of jg thirwell (foetus) doing music for anything outside of richard kern movies...

the new isolee album is definitely worth checking out. it took me a few listens, but now it's probably my favorite record of the summer. i'll be seeing him play in a few hrs, actually..yay! check out konrad black... also, most of the stuff on the areal label. the new metope album is pretty...

i saw lightning bolt + melt banana + pixeltan about 4-5 years ago... hands down the best rock show i've ever seen...

'red exposure' is probably my fav of theirs, but half machine lip moves is a fine place to start. really tho, all the the material up to and including 'third from the sun' is pretty great...except for maybe 'the visitation'..

hipnosis' version of the blade runner theme does appear (uncredited) on memory boy's 'no electricity' ep. 'high energy' by high energy is the other uncredited italo track on the record (very good song!). selway also put out a decent italo bootleg around the same time, w/ gay cat park, shock...

celso valli is an untouchably brilliant producer. the azoto stuff is almost as good as tantra. also passengers, musicmarkers ltd...loads of stuff. the tantra album shouldn't be too hard to find. i got my copy for 8 bucks i think. should turn up on gemm or ebay...

saw UR play a few months ago at the fuse-in fest in detroit. a little iffy, IMO.... full live band.....a lot of UR stuff is already dangerously close to being jazz-fusiony...this reallly almost pushed it over the top... if it hadn't been in detroit, as part of a festival celebrating detroit...

yeah, those aquanauts records were a bit of a bummer. a pretty weak tribute to james stinson... definitely looking forward to getting the new arpanet lp. the last one was totally brilliant.
