Peter Cook & Chris Morris - Why Bother?

God, this is good. Stumbled on it last night. Can't believe I hadn't heard of it sooner.

It's fantastic. Also, obv, the Peter Cook interviews on Clive Anderson, and the On the Hour radio series from Morris.

I know you're not allowed to say this but I don't normally find Peter Cook that funny - that was pretty good though.

I was listening to some more Peter Cook the other day off the back of this, and was disappointed that it wasn't as funny as I remembered, but that's true with almost any comedy I go back to listen to.

On the Hour stands up though - as a satire of the media it's still spot on, and Chris Morris/Armando Iannucci are still clear influences on a lot of the best comedy.

you lot dont understand comsedy cos you are not funny. peter cook is funny. anyone can be a straight man. try and take some risks. just do it in the pub for practice. be the creator not the straight man. who is pushing the story foward in this skit?

it's great and made me laugh, but it's the same as the 'Ikea' he pulls out in the Clive Anderson interview - the same joke. I love Peter Cook, but he's got his tried and trusted techniques like anyone else.

Yeah, the Honda bit was good (not seen the Ikea scene). In fact I enjoyed that whole sketch. It's the stuff with Dud that my flatmate watches that leaves me cold.

Derek and Clive is car-crash stuff. Very funny, personal enmity barely concealed beneath character...

Derek And Clive is a bit hit and miss but I think 'The Horn' is one of the most sublime bits of humorous obscenity ever recorded.

Not heard the Cook/Morris stuff but I'm intrigued, will check it out when I get home.

Edit: and baboon is spot on, it's very dysfunctional on a real, personal level - in some parts it's like witnessing the verbal, platonic equivalent of a wife-beating.

Not that Reeves deserves to mentioned in the same breath as Peter Cook, of course.
