I am thinking of going to see Alien: Romulus this weekend because apparently (to my surprise) it's supposed to be good and well scary.

I'm looking at some images from the original Alien that somecunt's posted on Twitter and thinking to myself

Why don't more film-makers pair up with visual artists like Giger to give their films a more distinctive look? Maybe they do, or maybe it's inappropriate, or maybe there's just not many Gigers about.

Yeah I wish there were better cases of production design out there today as well. I think Mad Mad Fury Road is a great example, as is the Loki miniseries. Of course I also think Wes Andersons films are great examples of aesthetically singular/distinctive production design. Cronenberg too, which actually isn’t that far from Giger aesthetics.

That, and it could be down to the studios and money men too. They're notoriously conservative and are getting worse due to being able to measure and quantify all sorts of things they previously couldn't in an attempt to squeeze more money out of a film. Those singular artists aren't always known for being easy to work with either.

My biggest regret about leaving London is that I didn't get to take Jack to the BFI Italian Neorealist season.

Are there people at the cinemas in London? Over here they're nearly empty whenever I go, even friday saturday nights.

I was hoping it’d have more Wayland Corp lore and fill some stuff in from Prometheus and Covenant, in vain of course. Cos I knew version’s description would fit the bill all along

C’mon version you wouldn’t see Eyes Wide Shut or something else from your to-watch list/canon due for a rewatch in 35mm at the beautiful Roxy Cinema in Tribeca someday?

I don't go to the cinema, but I wouldn't mind seeing it when it hits streaming. It's supposed to be about what you'd expect. A solid retread of the first, with a few tweaks.
i hate this shit. sounds like shit. heard some other awful stuff about it. really dont feel the need to watch. trailer looked wahtever.

I just saw Romulus, compared with everything that’s come after the first film I didn’t think it was half bad, actually. Scratched a bit of the Weyland and Prometheus lore itch I mentioned, too. Almost seemed pretty lame but they rescued it a bit at the end
